The client has received a redesign, a brand-new model family is now available, Studio Mode introduces offline video processing, multi-frame generation has been added, and a large number of stability issues have been addressed across different operating systems.
This update introduces the new Surge 1.5 model family.
Compared with the previous generation, Surge 1.5 represents a major step forward in efficiency, speed, and overall quality.
A lot of work went into improving temporal stability, motion quality, HUD behavior, and overall consistency without sacrificing the lightweight nature of the model.
Frame generation is no longer limited to real-time applications.
The new Studio Mode allows you to process existing video files directly through the app.
Studio Mode currently supports:
Frame generation for offline video
Slow-motion video generation
Dedicated controls for offline processing
This opens up a completely new use case for the app beyond gaming and real-time frame generation.
The client now supports multi-frame generation, allowing multiple intermediate frames to be generated between each pair of source frames.
This gives you more flexibility for higher output frame rates and also plays an important role in slow-motion workflows.
This update also adds interpolation buffer control.
You can now hold between 1 and 4 frames in the interpolation buffer.
Using a larger buffer gives the system more time to generate and fill intermediate frames, which can help lower-end hardware maintain smoother frame generation.
The trade-off is latency: the larger the buffer, the more latency is introduced.
Resolution support is no longer limited to 540p, 720p, and 1080p. The client now supports a much wider range of outputs, including 360p, 480p, 540p, 720p, 900p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K, 16:10 resolutions, and ultrawide formats up to 3440×1440. Stability has also been improved across several problem areas. The overlay should now behave more reliably, Linux fast buffers are more stable, and multiple Linux frame-pacing issues have been addressed.
This update is a big step forward from the first Playtest release, and feedback from the community has been extremely useful while building it.
I'm especially interested in hearing how Surge 1.5, Studio Mode, multi-frame generation, and the new interpolation buffer controls perform across different hardware.
If you run into bugs, compatibility issues, or anything that feels off, please keep the reports coming.
Thanks for testing the app and helping me improve it.
