Major Performance Update: Zero Freezes, Peak Responsiveness & Memory Overhaul!
Hello everyone! We have just deployed a critical performance update for DeskLayer focused entirely on smoothness, responsiveness, and rock-solid stability.
Over the past three days, we tracked down and resolved all the stuttering, memory spikes, and intermittent freezing issues that occurred after recent updates. Everything is now running lighter, faster, and butter-smooth!
🚀 Highlights & Improvements
- Completely Freeze-Free & Zero Input Lag
Re-engineered the entire dispatcher priority and background polling loop. Background monitors and timers now strictly yield to user interactions, mouse clicks, and window animations. Switching taskbars or hovering icons is now 100% instant with zero UI thread starvation. - Smart Two-Phase Memory Management
Fixed the issue where RAM usage would climb higher every time you switched presets or taskbars:
— Managed allocations (Gen 2 / LOH) are now swept asynchronously in the background when the app is idle.
— Trimming is applied safely to the host process while keeping Chromium GPU texture caches and DirectX swapchains fully intact in RAM. No more disk paging stalls or 1–3 second GPU micro-freezes! - Sleek & Compact Hover Peek Previews
The Aero Peek window thumbnail popups that appear when hovering over taskbar tiles have been redesigned:
— Thumbnail dimensions are now ~30% more compact vertically and horizontally.
— The preview popup is now much sleeker, proportional, and unobtrusive, matching the modern Windows 11 aesthetic without taking over your desktop. - Optimized Audio Visualizer Pipeline
High-frequency audio spectrum telemetry is now selectively routed exclusively to active visualizers rather than broadcasting to all satellite windows. This eliminates hundreds of redundant inter-process calls per second and keeps CPU usage minimal.
⚡ Ready to Go
Thank you for reporting these issues and helping us refine DeskLayer! Update your build, enjoy the silky-smooth performance, and let us know what you think.
Happy customizing!
