This update focuses heavily on Portal travel, the Upgrade Wish crafted Item, Context Panel consistency, and marketplace balance.
Portal interactions should now be much clearer and more reliable across normal Portals, Resting & Waiting, and the CHECKPOINT / Portal 40 route.
🌀 Portal Travel Overhaul
Portal interactions have received a substantial usability and reliability pass across all four Portal spaces.
- REST is now available alongside PORTALS when initially landing on a Portal.
- Portal destinations remain contained inside the dedicated PORTALS submenu.
- The Portal you're currently standing on is no longer shown as a destination.
- Destinations now use clear PORTAL 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 labels.
- Destinations you cannot currently afford remain visible but disabled, making the available route structure easier to understand.
- Free Portal Card travel is now folded into the same destination choice rather than creating duplicate destination entries.
😴 Resting & Waiting at Portals
Choosing REST at a Portal now correctly carries the interaction into the following turn.
- On the following turn, normal Portal interactions offer ROLL DICE or PORTALS.
- Resting & Waiting Portal destinations now clearly display the applicable +10 Token surcharge.
- The surcharge presentation respects effects that legitimately waive it.
- Portal choices now remain available even if client synchronization reaches the interaction slightly later than the host.
🧭 CHECKPOINT / Portal 40 Fixes
The CHECKPOINT that also functions as Portal 40 required special handling because it combines Portal travel with the Egypt/Sundaland route fork.
That interaction now resolves in the correct order:
- The Portal decision comes first.
- PORTALS and REST remain available while the Portal interaction is active.
- The Egypt/Sundaland direction choice is hidden until Portal travel has either been used or declined.
- Choosing REST declines the Portal opportunity and then reveals the normal route decision.
- Only after choosing Egypt or Sundaland does the normal dice roll become available.
- Portal 40 now correctly detects and displays its valid Portal destinations despite also functioning as a CHECKPOINT.
This removes several situations where Portal 40 could show the wrong action order, an empty Portal menu, or competing route choices.
⭐ Upgrade Wish Overhaul
CRAFTED17 - Upgrade Wish has received a complete interaction pass.
- Upgrade Wish now uses its authored Crafted17 card artwork in the player's inventory.
- Fixed an issue where selecting a Unit could register the button press without actually performing the upgrade.
- Upgrade Wish can now only be activated when the player owns at least one genuinely valid upgrade target.
- Target validation respects ownership, current upgrade level, upgrade cooldowns and regional-control restrictions.
- Units that are valid targets but currently unaffordable remain visible and disabled rather than disappearing.
🌍 Region → Unit Selection
The old flat Upgrade Wish target list has been replaced with a cleaner nested selection flow.
- First choose a REGION.
- Then choose one of your valid Units within that region.
- Only regions containing valid Upgrade Wish targets are shown.
- Only valid Units within the selected region are displayed.
- BACK from Unit selection returns to the Region list.
- BACK from the Region list returns to USE ITEM.
- Backing out does not consume Upgrade Wish.
🖥️ Upgrade Wish Now Fully Uses the Context Panel
Upgrade Wish REGION and UNIT selection has now been migrated completely into the universal Context Panel.
- No fallback modal popup is used for normal Upgrade Wish selection.
- If the Context Panel cannot safely present the interaction, the voluntary activation is cancelled and the Item is retained.
- The redundant CANCEL – KEEP ITEM option has been removed from Unit selection.
- The dedicated BACK navigation is now the single, consistent way to move through the Upgrade Wish menus.
The upgrade itself still uses the existing authoritative Token payment, Item consumption and multiplayer synchronization flow.
🍯 Honey Marketplace Rebalance
Honey purchasing has been simplified and rebalanced.
The marketplace now offers Honey bundles from x1 to x5:
- x1 Honey - 30 Tokens
- x2 Honey - 70 Tokens
- x3 Honey - 120 Tokens
- x4 Honey - 180 Tokens
- x5 Honey - 250 Tokens
The previous x6, x7 and x8 bundles have been removed from marketplace generation and can no longer be purchased.
🔧 Additional Reliability Improvements
- Improved Portal menu synchronization between host and connected players.
- Portal destinations are revalidated authoritatively before payment or movement occurs.
- Reduced the chance of valid Portal interactions appearing empty because of client-side timing.
- Improved Context Panel navigation consistency across nested Item interactions.
- Preserved existing Item availability during Portal interactions.
Thank you for continuing to play and test MISFORTUNATE during Alpha!
This update continues the wider effort to move gameplay choices into consistent Context Panel workflows while tightening up complex board interactions and reducing situations where players can become stuck or presented with conflicting choices.
