Macchinato 1.1.0 is live. The game now plays nicely with controller and on Steam Deck's own controls.
The D-pad and left stick move the selection focus across the UI. Holding it walks further in the direction at a steady pace. A presses a button. For franchising hold it three seconds. B backs out of menus.
For the golden bean every experiment for navigating focus to it seemed confusing by jumping the focus around, hence it got its own button. Press Y to claim the golden bean, no navigation needed. Keyboard simply uses the same character. A circled Y glyph beside the bean will remind you.
The store page now states full controller support for Xbox controllers. PlayStation and other pads should work too through Steam Input, but there is no triangle glyph and I own no DualShock/Sense controller to test and verify, so no claims until it shows the right button.
The game was originally designed for Steam Deck, hence the restricted resolution and layout of the game UI. I always tested it on the side but didn't want to release official support until it was completely playable without relying on mouse/touch inputs.
Now you can do a fresh install with the default gamepad layout and everything works as expected and touchscreen works on top as a mouse. The trackpads do nothing under the default layout. If you want a trackpad mouse, pick a different layout in the controller settings.
No native Linux client yet (can't share Steam Cloud save with Windows without moving everyone's save directory). Proton runs it fine.
I'd love to get the Steam Deck compatibility badge but it is awarded by Valve and they review games in their own order. So the page says Unknown until they get to it.
While the hover tooltips were functional, they didn't show up when using keyboard/controller navigation. Now they not only show up immediately, they also sit in a fixed place, have multiple lines instead of barging across the screen and offer more helpful content. In fact, I liked them so much, that they are now used for mouse controls too.
Generators now show their next milestones. The tooltip tells you what it does and the requirements to unlock. The next drink now states what it does too (what a shameful blunder >_<").
Your save carries over untouched
The "show save folder" button is hidden on Steam Deck to avoid getting deadlocked in a filebrowser
The franchise toast now shows loyalty points in the same way as the rest of the game
If something feels off on your pad or Deck, please reach out and tell me in the discussions or on Discord.
This is the input setup I could test with what I own, and you have plenty of other hardware :)
