DeskLayer v1.1 Patch Notes

Update Period: August 8, 2026 – September 8, 2026

1. Community Workshop Integration and Ecosystem

  • In-App Workshop Browser: Direct browsing for community presets, taskbars, widgets, and wallpapers with categorized filter chips (Most Subscribed, Top Rated, Most Recent), real-time search, and 1-click Subscribe/Unsubscribe.
  • Two-Column Interactive Sandbox Detail View: Live interactive desktop preview powered by a headless virtual machine with responsive monitor frames (16:9, 16:10, 21:9, and 32:9).
  • Modular Component Extraction: Selectively extract and apply individual components from a preset (e.g. only wallpaper, only taskbar layout, or only floating widgets) without altering the rest of the setup.
  • In-App Workshop Publisher: Landscape interface featuring drag-and-drop bundle packaging (.dlpreset, .dlbar, .dlwidget), automated metadata extraction, multi-genre selection, Age Rating metadata, and real-time upload progress tracking.
  • User Profile and Offline Fallback: Native user avatar and author attribution caching, automatic reconnect when the host client is launched late, and automatic local fallback catalog access when offline.

2. Virtual Desktop Sandbox VM and Snapshot Engine

  • Headless Virtual Machine: Isolated web runtime environment with static system drive mapping to accurately render video wallpapers, multi-island taskbars, and composite widgets.
  • Automated Preset Snapshot and Animated GIF Engine: Background asynchronous rendering of high-resolution PNG snapshots and animated GIF previews without locking or freezing the main user interface thread.
  • Aggressive Memory Lifecycle: Automatic suspension and complete virtual machine teardown within 500ms upon closing detail views to eliminate memory accumulation.

3. Dual-Edge Shell Stability and Multi-Dock Architecture

  • Dual-Edge and Dual-Gap Isolation: Dedicated per-edge native window ownership chains. Eliminates Z-order contention between top always-on bars and bottom auto-hide docks, resolving window racing and compositor freeze loops.
  • Native Shell Work-Area Reservation: Exact system bar registration ensuring maximized windows and desktop icons properly respect multi-monitor desktop gaps.
  • Cross-Axis App Satellite Centering: True cross-axis centering for app strip satellites (pinned and running tasks) that handles autogrow magnification headroom without vertical drift.
  • Dynamic Auto-Fit and Stretch Companion: Background panels, shapes, and images dynamically stretch to match the exact count and width of active app tiles.
  • Custom Pinned Overflow Chip: Replaced the legacy three-dot overflow button with a modern rounded glassmorphism tile.

4. Audio Engine, New Widgets, and Wallpaper Engine

  • Real-Time Audio Loopback Visualizer: Direct audio loopback capture with a calibrated 64-band FFT spectrum analyzer on the audio spectrum widget, removing artificial approximations and syncing directly with system playback.
  • New Widgets and Minimalist Redesign:
    • audio-waves: Calibrated real-time audio spectrum visualizer.
    • media-canvas: Animated music artwork canvas display.
    • photo-gallery: Local image gallery widget with built-in photo selector.
    • cyber-sys-hud: Minimalist hardware monitor for CPU, RAM, and GPU.

  • Media Player Redesign: Added three dedicated visual styles: Spinning Vinyl, Dynamic Soundwave, and Glass Capsule.
  • Top-Weighted Golden Ratio Wallpaper Cropping: 30% vertical focal anchoring for ultrawide displays to keep character faces and primary subjects visible.
  • Dynamic Dark and Light Theme: System-wide dark and light mode support with spring transitions, immersive title bar rendering, and consistent component contrast.

5. Visual Layout Editor and Font System

  • Interactive Visual Animation Picker:
    • Interactive gallery popup with live hover previews for Reveal, Exit, Hover, and Click animation effects.
    • Four-directional selector (Left, Right, Up, Down) for Wipe and Slide animations.
    • Pre-warmed background architecture with in-place reconfiguration for zero-latency reopen.

  • Live Searchable Font Engine:

    • Font dropdown with real-time text filtering and live font face rendering.
    • Custom font manager for importing .ttf and .otf fonts served via secure virtual host mapping.

  • Semantic Preset Diffing: Type-normalized comparison algorithm with sub-pixel DPI tolerance to prevent false-positive unsaved changes alerts.
  • Modern Minimalist Tray Context Menu: Fluent dark context menu with smart positioning above the dock, free of legacy white borders and gutters.

6. Performance, Memory, and Core Stability

  • Unified Web Runtime Environment Pool: Shared engine instance across floating widgets, taskbars, and satellites, reducing idle RAM consumption by up to 400 MB.
  • Elevated Dispatcher and Timer Priority: Elevated animation timers and dispatcher operations to normal priority, eliminating stutter and input lag when switching out of full-screen games.
  • Zero-Latency Aero Peek: Instant window thumbnail preview hide synchronization upon cursor exit.
  • Interactive FAQ Window: Built-in interactive guide available in 7 languages featuring verified hardware benchmark metrics.
