■ New: custom hive boundaries
Honeycomb drawers can now be given a boundary of your own, and icons are only placed inside it. Right-click a honeycomb drawer and turn on "Custom hive boundary", then "Adjust boundary" opens the editor: drag the white points to reshape it, irregular and concave shapes included, up to ten points in all, and the content scale can be changed while editing. The toolbar can be dragged wherever you like and offers add point, undo, restore default, apply and discard. The boundary follows the drawer when you move it, and is saved with your desktop layout.
■ Honeycomb drawer - custom boundary
- With "Custom hive boundary" turned on, the drawer is no longer moved back on-screen automatically and no longer repositions itself at screen edges; an explanation is shown once when you turn it on.
- Changed how files dropped into a drawer with no free slots are handled: when there is no room nothing is taken in and an explanation is shown; when there are fewer slots than files, only what fits is taken in and the result is listed.
■ Honeycomb drawer
- Reworked the hover glow on a single cell: it now spreads evenly outward from the centre, in a single colour and opacity.
- Fixed the content scale sometimes still being adjustable when the boundary could no longer hold the current icons.
■ Version update notices
- Added version update notices: when a new version is detected you are told, within ten minutes at most.
- Added "Check for updates" under "Advanced" in the tray menu, so you can check whenever you want.
- Added "Check for new versions automatically" in the settings, stating what it connects to and what it sends.
- Changed all known notice behaviour so that it never takes focus from the window you are using.
■ Desktop layout
- Added a prompt when applying a layout saved by a different version, leaving the choice to you; layouts saved by a newer version are not applied.
- Applying a layout from an older version now also turns off the custom hive boundary.
- Fixed honeycomb drawer icons sometimes staying at their old positions after a layout was applied.
■ Widgets
- Added "Keep on top" to the Pomodoro Timer and the System Monitor; both can be on at once, and the scope is explained when you turn it on.
- Adjusted the scaling range of the Pomodoro Timer.
- Fixed widgets flickering when dragged to a screen edge.
- Fixed the mouse separating from the title bar when a drawer turns automatically at a screen edge.
■ Steam and paid content
- DeskForge can now be used with Steam closed, with all core features unaffected; paid content still needs a Steam connection to unlock.
- Added a Steam connection status to the About window, noting when purchase records cannot be read for the time being.
- Fixed paid content not unlocking on its own when Steam starts slowly.
- Fixed DeskForge closing immediately after opening in certain start-up situations.
■ Settings windows
- Reworked the width of every settings window again, removing leftover empty space.
- Shortened some Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, French and German wording to narrow settings windows that were too wide.
- Fixed some settings windows opening behind other windows.
■ Other
- Reduced the installed size by about 11 MB, with no visible difference.
■ Finally
Thank you to everyone who reported an issue or sent us a suggestion — your feedback is where every update begins.
DeskForge is a one-time purchase, maintained for the long run: features you have already paid for will never be moved behind a subscription, and your desktop layout will never be moved to the cloud. We will keep fixing and adding, at no extra cost.
If you run into anything, use "Report a Problem" in the About window to tell us directly.
P.S. For the quickest update, we suggest quitting Steam completely and starting it again.
