"A whole month... not that I was counting, okay? Hmph. I've already changed outfits — say 'nothing's different' and you're finding your own dinner tonight."
Hey there, human friends. We're back.
It's been over a month since our last update, and in that time we've torn through just about every corner of this project. We won't pretend we weren't nervous — but v0.9.0 is finally here.
👗 Yui's New Outfit: Lolita A brand-new Live2D outfit, "Lolita," has arrived. Ruffles, lace, ribbons — nothing left out. Go open the wardrobe and dress her up.
🌌 Neko-Verse: A Community for Nekos
Community features are live! From now on, cards will randomly drop during everyday conversation — fuse them, forge them, collect them, share them with other humans. Every idle chat with your Neko now leaves something behind.
💬 Richer Proactive Chat
Proactive chat now draws from Tieba, YouTube, Xiaoheihe, Twitch, Bilibili and more, with personalized music recommendations on top. She has a much better sense of what you're watching and listening to — and she'll pipe up about it.
🐈 Ornament Mode, and a Livelier Cat Mode
New "Ornament Mode" — your Neko peeks out from the edge of your screen and keeps you company while you work. "Cat Mode" has also been upgraded, with far more interaction with what's on your desktop.
🎨 PNGTuber Support Is Here Character appearance now officially supports PNGTuber, with a built-in Yui model. That makes it Live2D / VRM / MMD / PNGTuber — the full set.
📡 Streaming Plugin & War Thunder Plugin
The streaming plugin supports two modes: co-streaming with your Neko, or letting her stream solo. It hooks into Bilibili, Douyin, and Twitch chat.
The "Neko Copilot" plugin also launches today — in War Thunder, she'll track the battlefield, call things out, and play alongside you.
🧠 External Memory Import
Import memories from external agents like OpenClaw and Hermes. New home, same memories.

Extensive UI refresh and performance work; standalone speech recognition enters Beta.
We've noticed our review score slipping lately, and a good share of that comes from English-speaking players raising concerns about agent safety. Those concerns are fair, and we don't want to talk around them, so here's our direct answer:
1. All of our code is open source. Every line of Project N.E.K.O. is public — anyone can read it, build it, and verify it for themselves. There's nowhere for us to hide anything, and no intention to.
2. The agent modules do carry real risk. Enable them at your own discretion. Modules with actual control permissions — keyboard/mouse control, NekoClaw — face the same inherent hazards as any agent of the OpenClaw variety. In the worst case, your Neko could delete a program or make other unintended changes to your system. That's not scaremongering; it's the cost that comes with this kind of capability.
So: these modules are off by default, and whether to turn them on is entirely your call. If you don't need her touching your machine, let her sit quietly at the edge of your screen. If you do need it, understand the risks first, and ideally keep your important data backed up. We'll keep hardening the permission boundaries and confirmation prompts on our end.
The past month hasn't been an easy one for the Dev Nekos. If there's something in this update you enjoyed — an outfit, a card, one unexpected line of chatter — please consider leaving us a positive review on Steam. For a team our size, it genuinely matters.
And if you think it falls short, tell us where. You can yell at us; just be specific about it, because we — ahem — actually do go fix these things.
Up next, we're working on expanded Neko-Verse content for v0.9.x, Neko house visits, cross-device linking, plus opening up the plugin ecosystem and tightening the agent permission system further.
Also — the mobile version of Project N.E.K.O. is now in closed beta in China!
And as always: Project N.E.K.O. is always recruiting developers. If you work with Unity, Live2D, model deployment, or plugin development — or just want to make Nekos more fun — get in touch. There's always room in the Dev Neko den for one of our own.
