Rent Due v0.1.6

The day is yours now. This patch reworks how time flows based on your reports, adds a notification history so nothing gets missed, and fixes a long list of bugs you sent in.

Time Rework

  • The clock only runs while you are actually in the world. Loading screens, the laptop, the travel map, doorstep conversations and popups no longer burn daylight. A loading screen used to eat 14 in game minutes. A tenant chat used to cost over an hour. Not anymore.
  • Days are longer: about 5 minutes on Normal, about 2 and a half on Fast.
  • A big portfolio's collection route finally fits inside a day, with time left to live your landlord life.
  • New setting: Time Stops In Menus, on by default. Turn it off if you want the day burning while you work. Loading screens always stop the clock either way.

Notifications

  • Notifications stay up longer, and the more there is to read the longer they hold.
  • New notification bell on the laptop taskbar with a count badge. Open it to read everything from the last ten minutes with day and time stamps, so nothing gets missed while you are out working.

New

  • Press SPACE to skip a line a tenant is speaking, on the doorstep and on the phone.
  • Rent collection keeps human hours. At midnight anyone still waiting walks inside and shuts the door, and the doorsteps fill back up at 6am.
  • The new game screens got a redesign, and Normal is now marked as the recommended pace.
  • Discord presence carries a Get on Steam button next to the Discord invite.

Fixed

  • Escape did not close the Settings screen for a lot of you. It turned out to depend on your frame rate: the faster your machine, the more often the key press was missed entirely. The same flaw broke rebinding keys and skipping the intro splash. All fixed.
  • Two second freeze when a tenant called you. The voice system was loading dozens of audio clips just to count how many exist. It now reads an index instead.
  • The calendar said "no rent due" on the current day while rent was sitting there waiting. Today now shows the amount ready to collect.
  • Phone calls could become unanswerable. The keys are printed clearly on every call screen now, and an answered call takes its cursor back if anything steals it.
  • Agreeing to a rent raise when a tenant's cousin moves in never told you it worked. It always applied, but nothing said so. Now it announces the new rate.
  • Prepay and pet deposit deals looked like they paid nothing. The collection summary now shows the full deal.
  • The Adjust Rent screen opened with its confirm button greyed out, which read as a broken screen.
  • The auction page could hide its own Start Auction button, especially on ultrawide monitors. That page scrolls now.
  • You could refurnish a home while a tenant was living in it, which quietly pushed up what they were worth mid lease.
  • The whole map looked blurry for some of you. The game was rationing texture detail regardless of your graphics card. It now scales to the card you actually have.
  • Big freeze opening the properties app, stutters while walking your neighborhoods, tenants greeting you mid argument, doorstep deals losing what was still owed, and Sam's course getting stuck on the collect rent lesson. All fixed.
