major update

Farm Factory Simulator · build 24489126 · published

On SteamNotes only · this build shipped before we watched the app

Hi farmers, 😄

Thank you for continuing to play Farm Factory Simulator during Early Access.

We would also like to thank everyone who has shared feedback, suggestions, and bug reports through the Steam Discussions and the in-game Bug Report / Feedback feature.

Your feedback continues to help us review which systems need clearer information, better controls, smoother automation behavior, or improvements to item flow.

In this update, we focused on giving players more control over their factory through Machine Management, Supply Crane configuration, improved Machine settings, more layout options, and several fixes for automation, UI, gamepad navigation, and production flow.

Here is what is included in this update.

Main Updates

1. Machine Management Control

A new Machine Management Control has been added.

This Machine allows players to monitor and manage many Machines from one place, without needing to walk to each Machine individually.

From the Machine Management Control panel, players can view their Machines by category, search by Machine name, check Machine status, rename Machines, open Machine settings, and manage Machine speed upgrades.

The panel includes categories such as All, Farm, Processing, Conveyors, Store, Storage, and Utility.

The search field also supports both default Machine names and custom names, making it easier to find specific Machines in larger factories.

For Machines that support power control, players can turn them on or off from the panel. The Turn on All and Turn off All options apply only to the Machines currently shown by the selected tab or search result.

Machine speed upgrades can also be handled from this panel. Players can upgrade individual Machines or use the upgrade-all option, with a confirmation showing the number of Machines affected and the total cost before the upgrade is applied.

If there are no Machines in the selected category, or if a search result does not match anything, the panel will show a clearer message based on the situation.

This should make it easier to manage larger factories as the number of Machines and production lines grows.

2. Supply Crane Settings

Supply Crane behavior can now be configured in more detail.

Previously, Supply Cranes followed a general automatic behavior. With this update, each Supply Crane can now be adjusted through Supply Crane Settings, giving players more control over how items are moved from Storage to Store Racks.

Supply Crane Settings include:

  • Priority commodity
Choose which commodity the crane should prioritize.

  • Source storage
Choose which Storage Machines the crane is allowed to take items from.

  • Max items per trip
Control how many items the crane can carry in one trip.

  • Serve today’s hot item first
Prioritize the current hot item when applicable.

  • Fill other shelves when priority is unavailable
Allow the crane to help with other shelves when there is no priority work available.

The Supply Crane card will also show clearer status information when it stops, such as when no source Storage is selected, no commodity is selected, or no valid priority item is available.

The Source Storage selection now only shows Storage Machines that can actually be reached by that Supply Crane.

These settings should help players build more specialized Store supply systems and reduce unwanted item movement in larger factories.

Default settings are designed to follow the previous automatic behavior, so existing saves should continue working normally unless players change the settings themselves.

3. New Mirror and Overhead Machine Variants

New Mirror and Overhead Machine variants have been added to provide more layout options when building your factory.

Mirror variants allow certain Machines to be placed in the opposite direction from their standard versions. This gives players more flexibility when designing production lines that need to face the other way or connect from a different side.

Overhead variants are designed for elevated conveyor routes. These variants help players route item flow above other Machines, buildings, or conveyor paths, making it easier to build compact and layered factory layouts.

These new variants include Storage-related Machines, Processing Machines, Picker Machines, Merge Machines, Filter Machines, Splitter-related Machines, and other conveyor-related Machines.

Each available variant includes its own shop icon, model, and localized description.

4. Storage Category and Blueprint View

The Buy Machine menu has been updated with a dedicated Storage category.

Previously, Storage Machines were grouped together with Store-related Machines, which could make the Store category feel crowded. With this update, Storage Machines and their mirrored versions are now grouped under their own Storage category.

The Storage category has also been added to Machine Management Control, making it easier to find and manage Storage Machines from the management panel.

A new Blueprint View has also been added to the Buy Machine menu.

Blueprint View helps players preview a Machine’s footprint, input direction, and output direction before buying or placing it. This should make it easier to plan factory layouts before committing to a purchase.

The Blueprint View will continue to be improved and iterated in future updates.

5. Nutrient Storage Settings

Plant Farm and Animal Pen now have Nutrient Storage Settings.

This setting allows players to limit how much Nutrient can be stored in a Plant Farm or Animal Pen.

This can help prevent too much Nutrient from being stored in one place, especially when players want to distribute Nutrient across multiple farms or pens.

The setting can be accessed from the Nutrient Storage point on the Plant Farm or Animal Pen.

Farms and pens from existing saves will continue using the previous full-capacity behavior unless players adjust the setting.

6. Processing Machine Excess Ingredient Settings

Processing Machines now have a new Excess Ingredient setting.

This setting controls what happens when an ingredient arrives while that ingredient buffer is already full.

There are two options:

  • Send to Failed
Excess ingredients are sent to the Failed Output. This keeps the previous behavior.

  • Hold at Input
Excess ingredients are held at the input conveyor instead of being sent to the Failed Output.

This gives players more control over how Processing Machines handle overflow situations.

If players want to avoid sending excess ingredients to Failed Output, Hold at Input can be used to let the input conveyor back up until space becomes available.

Items that are not ingredients for the selected recipe will still be sent to the Failed Output, since holding unrelated items at the input could block the Machine permanently.

Ingredient capacity for Processing Machines has also been adjusted to 24 per ingredient.

7. Storage Machine Failed Output Optimization

Storage Machine Failed Output behavior has been improved.

Previously, the Failed Output path in Storage Machines could continue accumulating rejected items without a clear limit. This could cause too many items to build up in that path, especially in larger factories or older saves.

With this update, the Failed Output path now has a limit. When the Failed Output path is full, incoming items will be held at the conveyor instead of continuing to enter the Machine endlessly.

This makes Storage Machine behavior more consistent with other Machines in the game.

The way Failed Output data is saved has also been optimized. Instead of storing every Failed Output item as a separate object in the save file, the system now stores them more efficiently while keeping the item order and contents intact.

This should help reduce save file size and improve handling for factories where many rejected items have accumulated over time.

Old saves remain supported. Existing Failed Output contents will still be loaded and handled safely.

8. Drone Delivery Station and Scan Area Improvements

Drone Delivery Station has received several improvements to make delivery automation easier to build.

A conveyor input has been added, allowing items to be supplied directly from conveyor lines.

This gives players another way to connect production lines to delivery projects, instead of relying only on the Station’s own Supply Arm.

The Supply Arm scan area has also been expanded, giving the Drone Delivery Station more reach when collecting items from nearby sources.

Scan area visibility has also been improved.

Previously, scan area visibility used right-click, which could conflict with other actions and cause the scan area to appear unintentionally.

Scan area visibility now uses a dedicated input:

  • Z on keyboard.

  • D-Pad Up on gamepad.

This control can also be used while placing Machines.

When placing multiple Machines in a row, the scan area visibility setting will now be remembered instead of resetting every time the next Machine appears.

The on-screen prompt has also been updated to show whether the current action will show or hide the scan area.

Improvements

1. Tutorial Menu Improvements

The Tutorial menu in the Tablet has been improved.

Tutorial entries are now grouped by Level, making it easier to review which features were introduced at each point of progression.

Each Level group can also be collapsed, helping players browse long tutorial lists more comfortably.

When moving through tutorial entries, closed groups can open automatically as needed so players can continue reading without needing to manually search through the list again.

2. Machine Settings Guide Expansion

The Machine Settings Guide has been expanded.

Several settings panels now include a ? button that opens a guide explaining what each setting does.

This helps players understand configuration options without needing to guess how each toggle or setting affects Machine behavior.

The guide now includes more explanations for Machine settings, Nutrient Storage settings, and Supply Crane settings.

Supply Crane Settings now also include guide information for several options, such as priority commodities, source Storage, hot item behavior, rack filling behavior, and item quantity per trip.

3. Progression Adjustment: Elevated Conveyor Belt

Elevated Conveyor Belt is now unlocked earlier.

Its unlock Level has been moved from Level 15 to Level 8, allowing players to access elevated conveyor routing sooner in progression.

The related tutorial entry has also been adjusted so the explanation appears at the appropriate point.

4. Main Menu and Steam Overlay Improvements

Main Menu content handling has been improved.

External Steam-related links are now opened through the Steam Overlay when available, instead of immediately switching players out to the system browser.

This should make opening Steam pages from inside the game feel smoother, especially when playing in fullscreen mode.

The More Games section has also received gamepad navigation improvements.

5. Visual, Performance, and Localization Polish

Several visual, performance, and localization improvements have been added.

Rendering optimization has been applied to many materials to help improve performance in areas with many similar objects.

Night lighting and reflection-related visuals have also been updated.

Several localization files have been refreshed, including new text for the features and settings added in this update.

Some UI layouts, panel sizes, icons, prop materials, and collider sizes have also been adjusted as part of ongoing visual and interaction polish.

Bug Fixes

1. Fixed Nutrient Consumption on Empty Farms and Pens

Fixed an issue where Plant Farm or Animal Pen could still consume Nutrient even when there were no plants or animals inside.

Nutrient should now remain stored until there is something inside the Plant Farm or Animal Pen that can actually use it.

2. Fixed Ready-to-Harvest Overlay Showing 0%

Fixed an issue where a fully grown or ready-to-harvest object could show 0% progress in the overlay information.

Ready-to-harvest objects should now display the correct completion value.

3. Fixed Machine Panel Input After Closing

Fixed an issue where some Machine panels could still receive input for a short time after the player exited the panel.

In certain cases, this could cause a panel to become stuck or react to input after it should already be closed.

Machine panels should now stop receiving input properly once the exit action begins.

4. Fixed Quantity Minus Button at 1

Fixed an issue where the minus button at quantity 1 could no longer be used to deselect a commodity.

This affected both mouse and gamepad input, but was especially problematic for gamepad users because it removed one of the main ways to cancel a selected commodity.

The minus button can now be used again to remove the selection when the quantity is at 1.

5. Fixed Mixer and Composter Mirror Placement

Fixed an issue where the mirrored versions of Mixer and Composter did not follow the same placement rules as the normal versions.

The mirrored versions can now also be placed both outside and inside the Factory area, matching the behavior of the standard versions.

6. Fixed Picker Machine Mirror Rig and Scan Area

Fixed several issues with mirrored Picker Machine variants.

This includes adjustments to the Picker Machine arm rig and scan area alignment so the visible range and Machine behavior better match the mirrored placement.

7. Fixed Rotary Splitter Output Issues

Fixed issues related to Rotary Splitter item flow.

A blocked output path should no longer freeze the entire Rotary Splitter, and items that enter a blocked path should be able to continue moving correctly once the path becomes available.

Rotary Splitter Overhead has also been fixed so items can be sent to the correct output path instead of returning to the input path.

8. Fixed Lift Conveyor IN/OUT Label Direction

Fixed an issue where the IN and OUT labels on Lift Conveyor did not correctly follow the conveyor direction when reversed.

The labels should now match the actual input and output direction more clearly.

9. Fixed Failed Indicator Lamp Placement

Fixed an issue where the Failed indicator lamp placement on some Machine models did not match the correct output indicator position.

The indicator placement should now be clearer and more consistent with the Machine’s actual flow.

10. Fixed Merge Machine Item Count Display

Fixed an issue where the Items in Machine count on the Merge Machine monitor did not accurately reflect the actual items inside the Machine.

The displayed count should now better match the Machine’s real contents.

11. Fixed Gamepad Navigation in Long UI Panels and Menus

Fixed several gamepad navigation issues in longer UI panels and menu sections.

This includes improvements to Storage selection grids, Buy Machine and Buy Seed grids, More Games navigation, and long scrollable panels.

Gamepad users should now be able to reach and navigate these UI elements more reliably.
