* Unfortunately, due to software idiosyncrasies, this version is not backward compatible with any previous R2 saves.
* Named tribes have now been placed in their correct geographical locations on the map. This is not merely a cosmetic change, it enhances gameplay when playing as an ethnologist and, (to a lesser degree), a journalist.
Although misplaced tribes were part of the Avalon Hill version of the board game mechanics (on which the digital version is based), it was too easy to gain victory points by discovering a variety of named tribes which were randomly placed anywhere on the map. The player now has to seek out tribes within their proper locations and may struggle to discover particular tribes if luck and conditions aren't right.
E.g. Pygmy tribes inhabit a small area east of Calabar and northeast of the mouth of the Congo and ONLY if the area is jungle. Some of this area is also shared by four other tribes. Therefore, finding Pygmies can now become a challenge.
* 13 of the 43 Avalon Hill version board game tribal names were either fictitious or misspelt. This has now been fixed.
1) Tuo is fictitious. Tuo is actually the name of a favourite dish of the Hausa, therefore Tuo tribe are now Hausa.
2) Wakomba is fictitious, they are now Yakoma.
3) Bapounon is fictitious, they are now Bamoun.
4) Bahlya are now Baya.
5) Bahutu are now Abahutu.
6) Baluba is fictitious, they are now Abaluya.
7) Hatsa are now Hadza.
8) Kwani is fictitious, they are now Kwandu.
9) Lonwe are now Lomwe.
10) Maleonde is fictitious, they are now Makonde.
11) Tawana are now Tswana
12) Yomba is the name of a North American Shoshone tribe. Yombe is the African tribe.
13) Ngumi are now Nguni.
* Improved QOL by removing the up/down key bindings which increased/decreased the speed of purchasing goods and men on the expedition makeup sheet and reassigning them to LShift+left/right mouse button. This also applies to filling/emptying the canteen as well as publishing victory points.
* Fixed a bug which, after regaining the askaris' respect, caused them to start leaving the expedition if the explorer was instructed to stop doing bearer’s work. (If the expedition defeats a native tribe or kills a dangerous animal, respect is regained and the askaris should stop leaving, even if the explorer continues to remain a bearer.)
* Fixed a bug in the journal which caused the date text to become misaligned if the player managed to exceed more than 12 pages of discovery entries.
* Changed the journal font to match the calligraphy style to that of the map of Africa port names for the sake of consistency.
* Improved QOL by having the "overburdened" warning in the game panel display how many units of weight to dump.
* Bonuses such as "petroleum deposits", "strange geological formations", "geosynclines" and "strange crystal formations" are no longer found in lake hexes.
* If an attempt is made to exit a lake hex and the decision is made not to cache excess items and continue, the hex chosen as the exit point is now revealed and deemed to be "partially explored". This was done to fix an anomaly in the mini map which would reveal the hidden terrain in the exit point and display it as fully explored.
