Hello everyone,I'm the developer of Ship of the Line. This update brings significant improvements to ship visuals, new historical warships, additional naval battle scenarios, more realistic weapons and armor mechanics, German language support, and loading optimizations. Our main focus has been to improve both the visual authenticity and historical accuracy of naval warfare, from the Age of Sail to the early ironclad era.
A new material texture system has been introduced across the ship models. The system preserves each ship's existing historical paint scheme while adding realistic surface details and material textures.
Hull and Deck: Wooden planking, natural wood grain, weathered timber, and tar-treated surfaces
Metals and Armor: Cast iron, bronze, rolled iron plates, and steel armor
Sails and Rigging: Linen canvas, hemp rope, and natural fiber textures
Decorations and Fittings: Gold leaf, brass, various hardwoods, and glass
Copper Sheathing: Copper plating textures below the waterline
A total of 308 ship models have been rebuilt with updated material information.A new Ship Material Textures option is available in the graphics settings, allowing players to enable or disable the feature at any time.To reduce performance overhead, texture sampling is automatically skipped for distant ships where surface details would no longer be visible.
A wide range of historical vessels has been added, from 17th-century sailing warships to 19th-century ironclads.Major New Ships

These scenarios feature historical fleet compositions and terrain based on geographical data.Battle of Hampton Roads (1862)Experience one of the most significant naval engagements of the American Civil War.The scenario features CSS Virginia, USS Monitor, and other historical vessels, including USS Cumberland and USS Congress.A dedicated battlefield has been created for this engagement.
The combat simulation has received extensive improvements, particularly for 19th-century naval warfare.Weapons and Armor
Revised historical gun arrangements and ballistic data for 87 steam-powered and ironclad vessels
Improved armor-zone calculations for 22 ironclads
More detailed protection calculations for armor belts, turrets, armored decks, and gun batteries
New historically modeled naval guns and turret assets
Wooden hull thickness and timber properties now affect projectile penetration
Ship information cards now display protection details
Gunnery Improvements
Corrected gun reload times using historical weapon data
Introduced realistic downward firing-angle limitations
Improved firing arcs, range indicators, and blind-spot visualization
Reduced excessive magazine explosion frequency
Corrected gun positioning and firing directions for casemate-mounted weapons
More Precise Damage Calculations
Hull and rigging damage now use decimal precision
Removed forced minimum damage values
Improved armor resistance and damage absorption
Refined crew casualty calculations
Standardized damage calculations across gunfire, explosions, fires, collisions, ramming, torpedoes, and other damage sources
These changes allow differences in weapon performance, armor protection, and ship construction to have a more accurate impact on combat outcomes.
Ship cards now display armament, 3D models, and turrets
Improved connections between ship catalogs and historical weapon databases
Ships sharing the same name are now distinguished by construction year
Duplicate catalog entries have been cleaned up
AI ship selection now better reflects the selected historical period
Several rendering and performance improvements have been introduced.

Optimized distant terrain and water rendering
Added a dynamic resolution option
Added an MSAA 4× anti-aliasing option
Reduced temporary freezes when ships sink
Improved hull damage visuals and sail damage effects
Fixed several open-world rendering issues
German has been added as the eighth supported language! The translation covers the user interface, ship and character names, captain dialogue, and major game data and descriptions. We hope this makes Ship of the Line more accessible to German-speaking naval history enthusiasts.
Following reports of unusually long loading times, the update system has been significantly improved.
Removed unnecessary large-file verification during startup
Added parallel update downloads
Added support for resuming interrupted downloads

Various additional stability, rendering, and gameplay fixes
Ship of the Line continues to evolve throughout Early Access. This update represents another step toward recreating historical naval warfare with greater depth and authenticity — not only in how ships look, but also in how their weapons, armor, construction, and combat systems actually function. There are still many historical warships, naval battles, and technological developments that I want to bring into the game.I will continue expanding its historical coverage while improving performance, stability, and the overall gameplay experience.Thank you all for your continued support, valuable feedback, historical references, and encouragement.Every suggestion and every piece of feedback helps this project move forward.Fair winds and following seas!— Developer of Ship of the Line
