Our new mod manager is up on coming_in_hot and ready for you to try!
Darkest Dungeon Mod Manager
!! WARNING !! Back up your save files.
Everything's been tested thoroughly and the Mod Manager creates its own backups too, but it's always better to be safe.
Your save files are located here:
Steam version: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\userdataYOUR_ID\\262060
Non-Steam version: C:\\UsersYOUR_USERNAME\\Documents\\Darkest
With that let’s get to the fun stuff!
What the Mod Manager does
The Mod Manager makes it easier to launch, organize, and set the load order of your mods. If you're happy with the classic in-game mod menu (or Sherin's Better Mod Menu), keep using it, it still works exactly the same as before.
But if you want more control and an easier way to manage things, just (after backing up your saves) launch the Mod Manager - you'll find it right in Steam when you hit PLAY.
The executable sits in the root folder of your Darkest Dungeon install. If you're on a non-Steam version, you can run it directly from the .exe.
Right now the Mod Manager only works with the Steam version of the game. Other versions aren't officially supported yet.
How you can help
We'd love your feedback! What felt intuitive, what didn't, whether the HELP section gave you enough info, and any bugs or issues you run into along the way. Every bit of feedback helps. We will be using feedback to help create an Official Steam Guide that will cover most of the FAQs and how-tos for using this new tool. For now we have opened a new DISCORD channel to help coordinate discussion on using the new manager.
A few things to know
If you're running large modpacks (100+ mods), the conflict detection will currently throw a lot of false alarms. Many mods touch the same files without actually causing problems in-game, and we don't yet have a reliable way to tell harmless overlap from real conflicts. So for now, treat conflict warnings as informational only. If your game crashes, check the log to see if the manager flagged anything relevant.
This is just the first version, we'll keep adding features and polishing the interface. Got an idea for something missing? Let us know.
Darkest Dungeon is 10 years old now, which means some of the oldest mods are just as old. Modding guidelines came later, so some older mods don't have a proper project.xml file. If a mod is missing that file (or the required parameters in it), the Mod Manager unfortunately won't recognize it and it won't show up in the list. There's no workaround for that right now.
And one more time... please back up your saves!
