Work on the extension of Line 17 for The Bus DLC – Hamburg City is continuing.
Last time, we showed you the section from Bramfelder Dorfplatz to the intersection of Bramfelder Chaussee and Berner Chaussee. Now, we continue the journey from there.
From the intersection, Line 17 initially continues along Berner Chaussee.
It then follows Petzolddamm to the Karlshöhe bus stop.
The streetscape along this section is primarily characterized by residential buildings.
Numerous houses as well as apartment buildings line the route. In between, you can also find newer buildings that have filled gaps in the existing development over the years.
However, the route is not completely without shops and businesses. Along the way, you will find various retail stores, restaurants, and snack bars. There are also a number of service providers and tradespeople, including hairdressers, a glass workshop, and a painting contractor.
The Bramfeld Cemetery and a senior living and care facility are also located directly along this section of Line 17.
The streetscape we see today is the result of a development that gained considerable momentum, particularly in the post-war period. Bramfeld gradually changed from a predominantly rural area into a densely populated district of Hamburg.
Extensive new residential areas were also developed around Karlshöhe during the 1950s.
The Karlshöhe housing development between Karlshöhe and Pezolddamm was planned in the late 1950s and comprised more than 1,100 housing units. As early as 1951, another residential development with numerous semi-detached houses was built nearby.
The name Karlshöhe itself, however, dates back much further. It originated from a farm formerly known as “Bramfelderheide,” which was given the name “Carlshöhe” in the 19th century.
Today, Karlshöhe is a part of Bramfeld characterized primarily by residential areas and plenty of greenery.
For the current expansion, our journey initially ends at the Karlshöhe bus turnaround.
Here, buses can turn around, while the area can also serve as a layover point for the lines that terminate there.
There is plenty to discover around the bus turning loop. Directly opposite, the local petrol station has been recreated in great detail. In addition to the actual filling station area, this also includes the car wash and a parcel locker station. A large car dealership can be found just behind it.
Many of these details help give this somewhat quieter section its authentic character and distinctive appearance.
However, Karlshöhe will not remain the last stop of Line 17 permanently.
As a further step, the route will be extended from here to its final stop at Berne U-Bahn station. The road required for this extension will later connect directly to the section presented here.
The images shown here already provide a very good impression of the current state of the update. At the same time, they demonstrate the level of detail that is going into the expansion. Buildings, shops, properties, vegetation, and numerous small objects along the route are based on their real-world counterparts, helping to create a highly recognizable environment.
Please note, however, that the expansion is still a work in progress, and individual details may change before release.
Work on the update is currently progressing at full speed. It will not be much longer before all owners of the Hamburg DLC can take Line 17 to Karlshöhe themselves.
The expansion will be made available free of charge as an update to all owners of The Bus DLC – Hamburg City.
