The development of Beehive Simulator is going well... really well, actually !
The core gameplay loops are now complete, optimization is already underway, and the first closed beta sessions have started.
After a lot of bug fixing and fine-tuning, the game is really starting to take shape.
The game’s balance is now coming together nicely, and you can really start to feel the sense of progression.
A huge number of bugs have also been fixed, bringing us closer and closer to a stable version that can be played on a larger scale.
I’m really happy with how the game is shaping up. There are still a few things to polish, but if everything continues in this direction, you might soon be able to get your paws into the hive!
A public demo could therefore be coming soon.
However, keep in mind that the demo will not represent the full game. Some features will be limited, while others simply won’t be available during the demo.
To give you an example, a Steam Inventory system will be implemented.
It will allow you to farm different items that can make you more powerful in-game, with the possibility to trade these items with other players.
The system is still in development, but it should add another layer to farming and progression.
Those who follow my projects know that I’m a big fan of idle games, and Beehive Simulator will be no exception.
You’ll be able to farm peacefully while AFK, while still having the option to play actively and optimize your production to make even more honey !
The goal is to find a balance between the two: whether you play for a few minutes or several hours, your hive will keep progressing.
The biggest difference compared to my previous projects is, of course, 3D.
Beehive Simulator is my first real game to incorporate a sense of depth. And, honestly, it wasn’t exactly easy to understand and develop at first !
But after several months of work, I’m now much more comfortable with 3D and all the challenges that come with it.
So naturally, I decided to stick with a “Minecraft-like” style, with a blocky, low-poly world.
This is mainly because I started using Blockbench to learn 3D modeling. I think it’s an excellent tool for getting into 3D modeling without immediately having to deal with the complexity of more advanced software.
Finally, I want to put a strong focus on exploration and discovery.
The world won’t simply be there for you to farm pollen. I also want to hide various secrets, rewards, and little discoveries that can reward players who take the time to explore.
The idea is to make you want to leave your hive and go see what’s hiding just a little further away.
In the end, I decided to mix several game styles that I particularly enjoy :
🌻 Idle / Farming for progression and AFK farming
🐝 Management for optimizing your hive and bees
🗺️ Exploration to discover the world and its secrets
🎒 Collection with different items to obtain
🧊 A simple and effective blocky 3D world
Let me know if you think I managed to blend all of these elements together successfully !
