The playtest is currently ongoing and we’re receiving lots of feedback!
Thank you for your help and we hope you’re enjoying Witherbloom.
We thought you might be interested in a bit of history behind the weapons.
The weapon renders below were all captured in Unreal Engine.
They are high-resolution versions of the in-game icons!
Carved Weapons
Carved from detritus, broken attempts, the remains of forgotten camps; wooden weapons give new life to what was once abandoned. Wood has the advantage of light weight, splintered edges, and a perceived abundance of material, until you find yourself choosing between building up your camp or beating your foes. The Smith sees wood as such a cheap material, but she finds techniques to craft you quality weapons through the use of fire hardening, carved edges, and the quenching of fiber.
Feral Weapons
Survival takes many forms; a clawing, gnashing, fight to survive. Sometimes a poisoned branch, pieces of material ripped from a wall, rusted nails, broken glass, or even anguish deep from the soul, makes a weapon a means to survive yet another day. Feral weapons are sometimes dropped by the Withered, sometimes crafted in disgust by the Smith, but all allow you to survive, at least for another run, to see the next day.
Hammered Weapons
The heat of the flame, how the sparks fly, metal is the true calling of the Smith - and she delights in the craft that you bring to her. Only… the quality of the metal you bring is a bit lacking, her forge not quite hot enough, and a roughly hammered shape is all that you receive. It is rare to find metal that is useable, and in the quality that can make a blade - though pieces can be found near ancient equipment that has long decayed. Bring the Smith metal and know that as your build her camp, the real treasures will show.
Knapped Weapons
Ceramic is abundant, a material that supported civilizations - from simplistic clay to ornate glazed, pieces of shattered pottery, now laid bare. Knapped weapons take advantage of incredibly sharp edges and the heft of stone, creating vicious weapons that eviscerate your foes, if only for a single dungeon run. The collected shards are melted down under the Smith’s forge, extreme heat and glassy shapes - a form she finds sloppy, while recognizing the effectiveness to survive yet another run.
Masterwork Weapons
Stories speak of craft that exceeds all human skill - a time that the very Orchestrators lent their ability and forges to the humans below. Most of that knowledge is lost, only whispers remain. With divine inspiration, materials, and tools, the Smith can show you true Solmari craftsmanship. Craft that transcends beyond just survival - true tools of function and power, and a path to success!
Morbid Weapons
Bleached bone, ancient screams now silent, the flesh now long decayed away. Who do you hold in your hand now? Were they a traveler like yourself, perhaps a friend? Bone, though grizzly in origin, is a very resilient and light weight material that can be found carried and stacked around the Withered and their camps. She does not judge the origin of these materials. The Smith knows that survival comes first, and the ancient craft to weld bone together carefully by seam is one she knows well.
