Dev Diary - Holiday Getaways by Tomas13TO

Hello everyone!

I'm Tomas13TO, and some of you may know me from the Cities: Skylines Content Creator Pack: Mountain Village. I also contributed some assets to the Eastern Europe Region Pack and the China Region Pack for Cities: Skylines II.

When Cities: Skylines was released in March 2015, I started creating models and publishing assets for the game on the Workshop. Over the years, I created buildings inspired by many different architectural styles and regions, but I always had a particular interest in coastal areas and holiday destinations.

Later, I started a series called “Palm Beach Series”, inspired by buildings and architectural styles from coastal regions around the world. What started as a collection of individual buildings gradually developed into a much bigger idea. I began imagining how these buildings could be brought together to create complete holiday destinations, with resorts, hotels, waterfront areas, and all the smaller details that make these places feel alive.

This eventually gave me the idea for this Content Creator Pack. I wanted to create a collection that would give players more possibilities to build their own holiday destinations, whether it's a large luxury resort, a lively vacation town, or a relaxing coastal getaway.

Holiday Getaways brings together buildings, parks, and props inspired by holiday destinations from different parts of the world. I wanted the assets to work together naturally, so you can use them to create anything from a small beachside getaway to a larger resort destination.

Thanks to Paradox Interactive, I can now bring you another Content Creator Pack for Cities: Skylines. Here is a brief look at how this project came together.

From Model to Game

Creating the assets for Holiday Getaways was a process of turning ideas and references into fully detailed buildings ready to be placed in your cities. Each building started as a 3D model, where I worked on the overall shape, proportions, layout, and architectural details.

A big part of the process was also creating the textures and materials that give each building its own character and help it fit naturally into the game. Once the model was ready, it could be imported into Cities: Skylines, allowing me to see how everything came together in the game environment and make the final adjustments.

Seeing a building go from an early 3D model to a finished asset in Cities: Skylines is always one of my favorite parts of the process. The development of each asset involves many small steps, but they all come together to create the final result.

Unique Buildings

Among these assets, you will find a wide variety of resorts and hotels featuring pools, sun loungers, palm trees, and other details commonly found in popular holiday destinations. Many of the buildings include spacious terraces and balconies, designed to make the most of scenic views and create a relaxing vacation atmosphere.

The collection draws inspiration from coastal resorts around the world, from tropical island getaways and Mediterranean seaside towns to modern beachfront developments. Whether you are building a luxury tourist district, a lively waterfront promenade, or a small beachside community, these assets offer plenty of options to bring your coastal areas to life.

Several buildings are also designed to fit naturally along shorelines, helping you create realistic resort destinations that blend seamlessly with beaches, waterfronts, and recreational areas.

Parks

Here you will find a selection of assets designed to make your tourist destinations more attractive and enjoyable for visitors. The collection includes a variety of waterfront attractions, leisure facilities, and recreational spaces that can help bring life and activity to your coastal areas.

From relaxing seaside venues to entertainment-focused attractions, these parks are inspired by locations commonly found in popular holiday destinations around the world. Whether you are creating a bustling resort district, a vibrant beachfront promenade, or a peaceful waterfront retreat, these assets provide additional ways to enhance the atmosphere of your cities.

The pack includes several waterfront assets, as well as unique attractions such as a small beach club, a water park, and a floating beach club, offering new possibilities for creating memorable vacation destinations along your coastline.

Props

The Props section contains a wide variety of decorative items designed to help you create realistic and detailed resort environments. Here you will find sun loungers, umbrellas, luxury sofas, lounges, and many other accessories commonly seen in popular holiday destinations.

Holiday Prop Pack

These props can be used to add character and visual variety to your city, hotel complexes, pool areas, promenades, and waterfront attractions. They are purely visual, but can add a lot of character to your builds. Whether you are creating an exclusive luxury resort or a relaxed tropical getaway, they provide the finishing touches needed to bring your vacation destinations to life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this dev diary and for joining me on this little journey behind the scenes of Holiday Getaways. I hope you will enjoy the pack and have fun creating your own holiday destinations.
