Hey Civ fans, welcome back to This Month in Civ!
August has been a lighter month for Civilization as we prepare some major work behind the scenes, including reveals we’ll share with you soon (more on that below!). In the meantime, we’ve continued making changes under the hood to improve the Civ VII experience for all of our players.
With that, let’s dive into August for Civ!
You can’t miss it! On September 5, we’re revealing the next evolution of Civilization VII at PAX West. Join us in-person from the Blue Dragon Theatre from 2-3 PM PDT (5 PM EDT / 11 PM CEST), where we’ll be celebrating Civilization’s 35th anniversary and sharing some exciting news about what’s next for the franchise. For those who want to tune in virtually, you’ll be able to follow along live on our Twitch and YouTube, or with a few of your favorite Civ creators!
What are we going to be revealing? Well, we can’t say much yet, but keen eyes may find a hint in this very article!
Earlier this month, we rolled out a hotfix to address a handful of community-reported issues. You can find more information here.
iOS players, the wait is finally over! The massive free Test of Time update is live for Civilization VII: Arcade Edition. If you’re experiencing Test of Time for the first time, this update brings a ton of new features to Civ VII.
First off, you can start and stay as any civ, in any Age! Whether you’re playing as Rome in the Exploration Age or America in the Antiquity Age, this update is all about bringing more freedom to our players, powered by new systems like Syncretism and Affirmation. You’ll also notice that Legacy Paths are gone in favor of a totally new system: Triumphs, which are new challenges that incentivize more sandbox-style gameplay. In that same vein, Victories are getting a rework, allowing you to build to Military, Cultural, Economic, and Scientific Victories over all three Ages.
Also coming in this update are two new Leaders (Gilgamesh and Alexander the Great), three new map types (Shattered Seas, Fractal Continents, and Archipelago), 175+ new music tracks, local Hotseat multiplayer, a rework to Happiness and Governments, and several other quality-of-life improvements.
