Hello everyone!

Welcome back to another development update for Ithiel AI.

If you've been following along, you've probably noticed something...

The UI has been changing.
A lot.

Menus move.
Buttons disappear.
Entire layouts spontaneously evolve.

That's because I'm still searching for the layout that finally makes everything click. I'd rather keep rebuilding it until it feels right than lock everyone into something mediocre for the next five years.

So if something looks different every other update...

Yep.
That's probably on purpose.

Current Mission

Right now I'm focused on turning Ithiel into something much bigger than "just another AI chat window."

The goal has always been to build an AI Operating Environment—something that actually helps organize your information instead of just answering questions and immediately forgetting everything.

That means the next few weeks (and probably months) are going to be heavily focused on finishing the systems that make that vision possible.

One of the biggest priorities right now is something I've wanted since the very beginning.

I want Ithiel to become the place where all of your AI knowledge can live together.

The plan is to let you import your exported conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, and eventually anywhere else that lets you export your data.

Instead of years of conversations sitting forgotten across half a dozen different AI services, you'll be able to bring them all into Ithiel.

And Ithiel won't just dump those chats into a folder somewhere.

It will begin stewarding them.

That means organizing them into your Library, connecting related conversations, extracting useful information, remembering important decisions, and turning thousands of old conversations into knowledge that continues to grow over time.

Your AI conversations shouldn't disappear just because you switch models.

They should belong to you.

Current Objectives

  • Finish integrating the Stewardship System, so Ithiel can actually organize and care for your information instead of simply storing it.

  • Improve file ingestion so dropping documents into Ithiel feels natural and everything flows smoothly into your Library and Projects.

  • Continue building AI conversation importing and stewardship so your ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, and other exported conversations become part of your personal knowledge library.

  • Continue polishing both Chat and the new Workspace until they feel like one seamless experience.

  • Finish our upcoming Privacy Protection Layer, which automatically redacts and protects sensitive personal information before it becomes long-term knowledge.

  • Continue developing our built-in AI internet search.

About that search...

To be completely transparent...

It's... uh...

...kind of meh right now.

Sometimes it works.

Sometimes it has opinions about working.

Turns out letting AI search the internet either costs money every time someone presses a button or requires jumping through approximately seventeen flaming hoops.

So naturally...

I decided to build my own search system.

Because apparently I enjoy suffering.

It actually works surprisingly well considering where it's at, but it still needs a lot of refinement before I'll call it "finished."

Behind the Scenes

One of the biggest projects recently has been rebuilding Ithiel's internal architecture.

A lot of work has gone into things that aren't immediately visible:

  • A much stronger knowledge library

  • Better project reconstruction

  • Improved file intelligence

  • More autonomous background organization

  • Better event tracking

  • Cleaner UI architecture

  • Removing old legacy systems that keep haunting the codebase like tiny software ghosts

Most of these changes don't make for flashy screenshots...

But they make Ithiel much more reliable and give us a much stronger foundation for everything coming next.

Where We're Headed

The long-term vision hasn't changed.

I don't want Ithiel to be "another chatbot."

I don't even want it to replace the AI assistants you already use.

Use ChatGPT.

Use Claude.

Use Grok.

Use Gemini.

Use whatever works best for you.

Then bring that knowledge home.

I want Ithiel to become the steward that remembers everything you've learned, organizes your files, keeps your recipes, helps with research, manages your projects, protects your privacy, and grows alongside you regardless of where that information originally came from.

Your knowledge shouldn't be locked inside one service.

It should belong to you.

We're getting closer every week.

Final Thoughts

So...

Expect a few bumpy roads ahead while I continue untangling the spaghetti with what can only be described as a very determined hairbrush.

Some features will be rough.

Some buttons will probably move.

Some systems may temporarily decide they're on vacation.

But every update is pushing Ithiel closer to becoming the AI Operating Environment I've wanted to build from the very beginning.

As always...

Thank you for sticking with me through the chaos.

dont worry your trusty Cpt Zaph branigian (hopefully my dyslexia covers the blatant copyright o'no's) will daftly send wave after wave after wave of code

Right on,

~ Smash

Sometimes when you sit down to build something, you just don't know what's going to happen. HA. What does that mean? Ithiel will be able to absorb AI .zip backups better than before, but the system isn't limited to AI backups. It can absorb other types of backups and large collections of information too, like an old server backup.
