Hey residents! 👋 Today, we're excited to finally share our next game set in the cozy world of Hokko Life, as we just revealed Hokko Spaces in Wholesome Direct 2026! ✨
Hokko Spaces is a creative sandbox experience where you can design beautifully detailed miniature diorama-style worlds, developed by Robert Tatnell at Wonderscope Games and published by Team17.
We want to provide a relaxing experience as you create beautiful, lively spaces inhabited by adorable characters, both new villagers and ones you know and love from Hokko Life! Unlock these new residents and watch them interact with the world you've created, in the peaceful sandbox of Hokko Spaces.
Alongside our announcement, we're thrilled that our Steam Playtest for Hokko Spaces is now live!
We're looking forward to seeing your cozy creations from our June Playtest. We'd also love to hear your feedback on the Hokko Spaces Playtest, as we're eager to take feedback and implement your suggestions! 🎉
Team17 recently sat down with Robert Tatnell, the developer behind both Hokko games, to discuss what Hokko Spaces is all about and what experience you should expect with sandbox game:
“After the success of Hokko Life a few years ago I wanted to work on something smaller and more focused; a game that presents a bitesize dose of cuteness and creativity best enjoyed under a blanket with freshly baked cookies and a nice comforting drink. I love miniatures and dioramas and wanted to create a place where players can build their own small, lively spaces, decorate them with cute items and watch as the adorable Hokko characters potter about them and interact with the world”
“We’re launching today’s Steam Playtest alongside the game’s announcement to not only give players the opportunity to get a taste of what’s in store for them, but to also allow them to give feedback on ways to make Hokko Spaces an even more relaxing and comforting experience. We’re looking forward to hearing what players have to say!”

Tips for improving framerate:
Reduce the grass amount (this can make a big difference)
Reduce Shadow Quality and / or turn off Soft Shadows
Turn off Ambient Occlusion
Reduce Texture Resolution
Set Distant Mesh Quality Reduction Amount to 1
🎨Design at your own pace: Whether you're crafting a cozy woodland corner, the perfect picnic spot in town, or something entirely your own, every detail comes together to make each space uniquely yours. Shape the perfect atmosphere by adjusting the time of day, weather and seasons, capturing everything from drifting sakura on a spring evening to the first frost on a winter morning.
💗Charming locals: As your spaces grow, friendly residents will begin to appear. Unlock them by completing simple, relaxing goals, and then watch as they wander, unwind, and interact with the objects you've lovingly placed, bringing a sense of life and warmth to each scene.
📸Picture perfect: When everything feels just right, step into camera mode to capture your favourite moments. Experiment with filters, framing and focus to create beautiful snapshots to share with the world.

The game is coming to Steam and Nintendo Switch. I'm planning on simultaneous launch (eek!)
Hokko Spaces is a bite-sized game. It's not a big life sim like Hokko Life but more of a smaller, focused, creative experience like Tiny Glade or Summerhouse.
The plan is to have saves from the Demo transfer over to the full game.
All the Items in the game are designed for the game itself and there isn't player created content.
There are A LOT more items in the full game, the amount is limited for the Demo to just give a taste
Complete Gamepad support, it has been designed with gamepad in mind from day one.
Works fantastic on the Steamdeck!
There's no current plan to update Hokko Life with the new villager visuals. HL is an old game now and as it's multi-platform too it would require a lot of time and work across multiple companies to get that sorted sadly. Though I'd love to do it!
Currently there's no cross-game functionality, so Hokko Life won't affect Hokko Spaces.
It's going to be published by Team17 again.
