This update is a good one! Someone shared this quote and I thought it was quite powerful.

IKANDY 1.4.6: WARPCORE is complete

WARPCORE / MilkDrop

  • The per pixel warp engine is on for everyone. Presets render sharper and run several times faster at high resolutions.
  • Waveforms now draw as thick, smooth ribbons with proper joins and antialiasing.
  • Presets that ask for random textures now pull from a real texture library instead of a fallback.
  • Mouse reactive presets respond to your mouse now.
  • Presets that washed out toward white have settled down. The engine's brightness handling was rebuilt so the classics look like the classics again.
  • A rare engine glitch that could scramble a preset with invalid numbers is now contained instead of taking over the screen.
  • Orientation fixes: presets no longer render upside down in some configurations, and a couple of stubborn ones got individual corrections.
  • God Rays on MilkDrop no longer paints a milky veil over dark presets, and the God Rays editor gained an Auto row to hand calibration back with one click.
  • The apply to all offer on presets works now, and it applies only what you actually changed.
  • A handful of presets that never compiled or dissolved into noise were removed.
  • New experimental Setup toggle: HDR MilkDrop feedback (fp16). Off by default. It reduces color banding, but some presets can turn noisy with it on.

Performance

  • The heavy fractal worlds got a full performance pass: smarter quality budgets for every tier of GPU, and a rescue governor that holds your frame rate when a scene runs hot.
  • Leaving a MilkDrop preset for another visual now crossfades live instead of cutting, and a stutter on scene switches was killed at the source.
  • A slow scene switch shows its progress now instead of looking like a hang.
  • The app boots lighter: roughly three megabytes of code left the startup path.

Pilot

  • Pilot measures the real energy of your saved scenes instead of guessing.
  • No single visual style can dominate the rotation anymore.
  • The musical early cut now scales with your CYCLE knob.

Interface and input

  • Touchscreens work everywhere now. If you run IKANDY on a touch laptop or tablet, taps finally land.
  • Span (All) and Mirror (All) are back in the right click Monitor menu as one click, all monitor gestures, and its dead click is fixed.
  • Span no longer leaves a thin taskbar sliver along the bottom of a panel.
  • The audio meters can no longer freeze for a whole session after a bad audio read.
  • The stray gold curve some of you saw floating over the console is gone.
  • Wheel scrolling over the preset picker no longer grabs a card by accident.
  • The console status line no longer carries the previous scene's name into a MilkDrop preset.

Content

  • Fresh installs now open on Storm Cell, a new curated default scene. Its rain falls down.
