Quote: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

This update rolls up four releases of new content, new play, and a big performance pass.

NEW GAME: Slingshot

  • A brand new gravity well melee game in the GAME tab, beside One Small Step. Build a fleet of 5 ships from a roster of 25, sling around the planet, and fight.
  • Play solo against easy, medium, or hard bots, share one keyboard with a friend, or play online. Online matches use sealed picks: neither player sees the other's fleet until both press READY.
  • Full keyboard and Xbox controller support, with the controls shown right on the title screen. The arena's nebula and gravity well dance to whatever you are listening to.
  • Your wins and losses are tracked in two columns: vs computer and online.

One Small Step: the moon grew up

  • Every player now has their own identity lightform and permanent color you can spot across the plain.
  • Paint the sky: fire paint comets that ride your music. Loud moments paint fat blazing ribbons, quiet ones thin filaments. The sky keeps the day's strokes and late joiners inherit them.
  • Flight feels real now: jump, then jump again with the stick held for dodge flips, with full air control. Other players see your flips too.
  • GIF chat got a full controller kit: click the right stick to open the tray and send, browse with the right stick while your left hand keeps driving, triggers change tabs. Received GIFs play their sender's horn chime.
  • You are now asked to play solo or shared every time you enter the moon, so nobody stays solo by accident.
  • Fixed: stickers and GIFs now reliably appear over your rover.

Performance: menus no longer cost you frames

  • Opening the console or any menu no longer drops the show's frame rate. In our worst test case a heavy scene with the console open went from 81 to 95 fps with the stutter hitches eliminated.
  • Effect passes that are doing nothing now cost nothing: god rays at zero strength, color grading with no LUT loaded, and more.
  • The audio path was cleaned up end to end for smoother reactivity with less overhead.
  • Steam overlay support now defaults off, because the overlay hook can cap high refresh monitors at 60 fps. If you use Shift+Tab or Steam Broadcast, turn it back on in Setup. Takes effect next launch.

Balance and fixes

  • Slingshot: fixed a shield that could make one ship unkillable, added a match timer so a standoff always resolves, and fixed several online issues around rematches, sound effects, and stats.
  • Slingshot fleets are now exactly 5 ships, and the title screen has an Exit option.
  • Fixed a hiccup that made menu navigation stutter across the whole app.
  • Many smaller sizing, HUD, and stability fixes across the moon and the console.
