Hello, Castaways!
The first Brightfall closed playtest is officially underway.
For this first round, we’re giving access to the first 1600 players. If you’re already in - welcome to the Isle.
If you signed up but didn’t get access yet, don’t worry. You’re still on the list. We’re starting small so we can watch the test closely, gather useful feedback, and gradually invite more players later.
This is your first chance to get hands-on with Brightfall - our 1-4 player survival-craft set on a cursed Celtic island, where light is your last defence against a living darkness.
For this test, we’re especially interested in feedback on the overall gameplay experience, gathering resources and interacting with harvestable objects, and most importantly, how light affects the world around you and how the darkness affects you in return..
This is still an early build, so expect unfinished systems, balance changes, rough edges, fps drops, and the player occasionally losing a body and becoming a head.
Before jumping in, please keep these in mind:
There is currently no save system in the playtest. Once you leave the session, your progress will not be saved, so please keep that in mind before setting off on an especially ambitious expedition.
The playtest is currently available only in English and Polish.
Co-op is currently limited to 2 players. Brightfall will support up to 4 players, but for this playtest, parties are restricted to two.
Some world objects, such as light-regenerating obelisks and factory, may stop working correctly after you move far enough away from them and then return
We’ll keep updating this list as the test continues.
Brightfall is still very much in development. This playtest gives you access to part of the experience we’re building.
Available in the current playtest:
Around one hour of gameplay or longer if you like taking your time and exploring
Character creation with customization
World generation - each world is a little different, with a variety of locations and elements to discover
Using light to push back the darkness and transform the world around you
Resource gathering
Melee combat with 4 enemies ready
Crafting
And here are some of the things we’re still working on and plan to add in future versions:
A better map and minimap
A more polished Dark Madness mechanics
More ways for you to affect and shape the world
A fully developed building and base development
Improved factories and more factory types
More quests and more ways to discover the story and lore of the world
Character progression
Ranged combat
Minibosses
More content. More content. And then some more content.
Improved performance
And this is only the beginning. We’re planning more playtests, followed by a public demo, Steam Next Fest, and eventually Early Access.
With every step, we want to open Brightfall to more players and keep improving it together with you! :sherma:
There’s a reason we’re putting Brightfall in players’ hands this early: we want to build it with our community from the beginning.
If you take part in the playtest, please tell us what you think. The feedback form is available directly in the game.
You don’t need to write an essay - even a few honest answers are useful to us! When you’re done exploring the Isle, please remember to fill it out.
Your experiences now will help shape what Brightfall becomes next.
