We're excited to share the official roadmap for Escape Purgatory. This roadmap shows everything we've accomplished so far and where we hope to take the game in the future.
First and foremost, we couldn't have made it this far without all of you. Every purchase, review, bug report, and suggestion has helped us continue improving Escape Purgatory. So...thank you.
Everything started with a simple idea. We began building a mysterious world that would eventually become Escape Purgatory.
As development continued, the vision for the game became much clearer. The foundations of Escape Purgatory were finally taking shape.
We did it! Escape Purgatory officially launched on Steam. Releasing our very first game was an incredible milestone and one we'll never forget.
We wanted players to have a reason to keep coming back, so we introduced Survival Mode, bringing endless replayability with wave-based Monsters.
This became our biggest overhaul yet. We rebuilt the menu system, redesigned Survival Mode, introduced unlockable cosmetics, Steam achievements, new branding, and made countless quality-of-life improvements throughout the game.
Our first completely new FREE realm. Players can explore an entirely new farm environment filled with fresh puzzles, immersive details, and even more cosmetics and achievements to unlock.
The roadmap doesn't stop here. Here's what we're hoping to build next.
Endless survival arrives in the Farmstead Realm. Along comes an expanded arsenal of weapons so players can fight through increasingly difficult waves.
Inspired by the legends surrounding Elizabeth Báthory (The Blood Countess) and the horror film Stay Alive, explore the mysterious Gerouge Castle, uncover the horrifying truth hidden within its walls, and stop the evil. Just remember that in order to do that you must... Stay Alive!
The Castle receives its own Survival Mode complete with new weapons and endless replayability.
Space isn't as empty as it seems. Stranded upon a mysterious alien world, you'll need to gather resources, survive relentless alien monsters, and discover a way back home before it's too late.
Take the fight to the aliens in another endless Survival Mode featuring additional weapons and unique encounters.
Looking for a different type of Purgatory? Challenge yourself to climb as high as possible in this unique bonus level. Just don't fall off the map.
Perhaps the most ambitious feature of all. Hidden puzzles scattered throughout every realm will connect together into one massive mystery. Players who love solving secrets and hunting Easter eggs will be able to unlock hidden locations across completely different realms. This is designed for those who want to uncover every last secret Escape Purgatory has to offer.
This is our biggest "dream feature." When Escape Purgatory first began, multiplayer was never part of the design. Anyone familiar with game development knows how difficult it is to add multiplayer after a game has already been built. That said, we'd absolutely love to make it happen. Once we feel the game is complete as a single-player experience, we're going to explore whether multiplayer can become a reality. No promises—but it's something we'd love to deliver.
Escape Purgatory began with two friends who challenged themselves to make a game and release it on Steam within one year. With that deadline landing near Halloween 2022, making a horror game felt like the perfect choice. We started with a relatively small story-driven experience. But after just a few months, something changed. The project kept growing. New ideas led to new realms. We wanted to add new weapons, power-ups, upgrades, more puzzles, and Survival Mode--all slowly transforming Escape Purgatory into something far bigger than we originally imagined.
As first-time developers, we've learned an incredible amount throughout this journey. Every update has made us better developers, and while there's still plenty for us to learn, we're extremely proud of what Escape Purgatory has become. This roadmap represents not only the future of the game, but everything we've learned along the way. Even beyond these major milestones, we'll continue adding new cosmetics, achievements, quality-of-life improvements, and polish wherever we can.
