Developer Log #1: Why Terracrypt Takes PixARK Underground

Hello, Explorers!

Since we announced that Terracrypt is coming this August, we’ve been following your comments, discussions, and curiosity with great excitement.

As a major expansion built around the underground, one question naturally comes to mind:

After the surface and the skies, why did we choose to take PixARK beneath the world?

Today, we’d like to share the design idea behind Terracrypt and why the underground became the heart of this new adventure.

Completing the Block World

In your past adventures, many of you have already conquered PixARK’s blocky lands and floating islands. But beneath those familiar places, the underground has often played a smaller role — a space to pass through, rather than a world to truly explore.

With Terracrypt, we wanted to change that.

This expansion was created to fill that missing layer of the block world. Our goal was not to simply add more caves, but to build an underground world with its own landscapes, ecosystems, ancient ruins, and exploration structure.

We wanted the world below to feel mysterious, dangerous, and alive — a place that feels just as important as the surface above it.

More Than a Place to Gather Resources

In many similar games, the underground is often tied to one main purpose: gathering resources.

For Terracrypt, we wanted to go further.

That is why we greatly increased the focus on adventure and exploration. Deep beneath the surface, you’ll find massive cavern systems, winding tunnels with little natural light, and ancient ruins hiding dangerous mechanisms.

The underground is no longer just a place you visit for materials.

It becomes a core stage of the journey — a place that pushes you forward, challenges your decisions, and invites you to keep descending into the unknown.

The Spirit of Exploration

Compared to the bright, open world above, the underground brings a completely different kind of survival experience.

The terrain is deeper and more complex. The ecosystems are unfamiliar. Powerful threats wait in the darkness. Every step below the surface asks you to adjust, adapt, and stay alert.

In Terracrypt, we want explorers to step away from the safety of the surface and embrace that sense of discovery.

You’ll need to navigate with limited visibility, plan your path through vertical spaces, and rely on both skill and strategy to defeat the bosses hidden deep underground.

The deeper you go, the greater the danger becomes.

But that is also where the true thrill of exploration begins.

More to Come

This is only a small glimpse of Terracrypt.

In future developer logs, we’ll be sharing more about the new biomes, unique creatures, and the ideas behind their design.

If you have any questions about the story behind development, feel free to leave a comment.

And finally, don’t forget to add Terracrypt to your wishlist.

The world beneath PixARK is waiting.
