The release date for Thumps & Blows has finally been decided.
Since I don't care much about SEO, here it is:
Why this date?
Because it's before the release of you know who, before another game about superheroes beating each other up, and after a different one about monks beating each other up.
It's a great time for fighting games, and I'm really happy to see so much interest in the genre right now.
Not every feature I'd like to include will be ready on day one, but the game has to launch eventually. Here's the plan:
Obviously, all the content currently available in the demo
A total of 10 characters with hundreds of possibilities
A total of 12 stages
An absurd story mode
The amazing Ball Minigame™ and whatever other minigames I manage to finish in time
A high-energy soundtrack with around 15 tracks
Infinite laughs and fights with friends
Developing a game like this on my own is complicated, and since I greatly overestimate my ability to make things, there will be plenty of cool features, but some ideas simply won't make it in before release.
Which brings us to...
The game will continue receiving technical support for a while.
Whenever you think you've fixed everything, some random fool shows up and discovers 50 brand-new bugs. So I'll keep an eye on things and fix any technical issues that appear after launch.
I'd also love to keep adding new content.
I'd love to add new characters, game modes, story content, and maybe even some collaborations. Is there any collaboration you'd like to see?
Now, how long will that last? If it were up to me, I'd happily retire while still making content for Thumps & Blows. But that will depend on how successful the game is and on how much energy I have left afterward.
Even if there comes a point where continuing development no longer makes sense, I'll probably still work on an update whenever I feel like it.
I hope you're as excited as I am to see the final version of the game. In the meantime, remember that the demo is available right now, and that if you join the official Discord server, you'll get access to the game's playtest and help shape development by sharing feedback and finding bugs.
Thanks a lot for reading, and go hand out a few Thumps & Blows!
