Welcome to our second major update for Bits & Bops!
If you've been reading our patch notes, you'll be aware that we've been working on a custom mixtape editor for some time now. In this patch, we're finally ready to release it to the public! Head to the workshop (the new area of the store that unlocks once you finish the main game) to check it out! The editor has a brand new visual style, including light and dark modes.
To celebrate, Bits & Bops will be 20% off for the next two weeks! Now is a great time to grab a copy if you haven't already, or consider gifting one to a friend if you'd like to support us and the continued development of Bits & Bops. We've also created some super cool Steam Animated Avatar Frames themed after the four mixtapes and the community computer, which will be available very soon. As the custom mixtape editor is quite the complicated application, we're sure there will still be a few rough edges. We plan to dedicate the next few weeks to fixing bugs and implementing requested features, so please join our Discord server to give feedback and join in on the discussion!
Speaking of the workshop, we've noticed a few people continue to be confused by the conditions required in the endless minigames to progress through the main game. For now, we've removed these minigame-specific conditions, instead allowing you to progress after you have simply entered the minigame at least one time. We plan to revisit better ways to solve this in the future, but wanted to be sure we could get people unstuck in the meantime.
Finally, we've made another tweak to Steady Bears aimed at making the game easier for people who are struggling with this minigame. Since your partner always skates perfectly in time, we've added an extra layer to the sound of her skates to allow players to more easily hear and mimic her timing. Please let us know in our Discord server if this change has helped you, or if you are still struggling with this minigame.
As always, we're continuing to take on feedback and prioritise features and fixes, so please keep reporting bugs and making suggestions, and we'll keep doing our best to address them. Game updates
The custom mixtape editor is now available in the workshop (unlocked after finishing the game)
The jukebox can now be accessed from the main menu without finishing the game
Simply entering the endless games will now trigger the next row of minigames to unlock
Your partner's skates in Steady Bears now have an additional impact sound to help you keep time
B-Bot's spin-out animation now has an additional impact effect
Bug fixes
The calibration test now functions correctly when Scheduled Hits is already enabled
Older custom mixtapes can now be properly imported into the Jukebox from disk
Custom mixtapes that previously broke the Jukebox now display a helpful error message
The sound for falling over backwards in the Steady Bears tutorial now matches the main game
Editor changes
The editor interface has been visually reworked (with light and dark modes)
Old game switching semantics are now preserved for older mixtapes
The mixtape is no longer marked as changed when toggling editor properties
The previous Hammer Time (Ocean) sorting semantics are now preserved for older mixtapes
Molecano now allows you to manually specify the visual speed of the cart
Debug pool size options are now available for Flow Worms and Firework Festival
Molecano background events no longer impact Molecano (Ocean)
Unsupported minigames now show a blank scene instead of breaking the mixtape
The unsupported "bubble" options have been removed from Meet & Tweet (Sky)
Non-game events no longer impact the implicit starting game calculation
Soundtrack updates
The album art is now embedded in the metadata of the soundtrack files
Accessibility improvements
The jukebox now uses the confirm noise when confirming a sorting order change
