Checkpoint '38 got selected for Steam Next Fest, October 2026. The demo is already live now, and it'll stay up through the event, so you don't have to wait for October to try it.

Quick reminder for anyone landing here fresh: Checkpoint '38 is a document checking simulation in the Papers, Please lane. You inspect passports, visas, and permits at the Konstanz–Switzerland border, and the rulebook only gets stricter as you go. What sets it apart is that every traveler is procedurally generated, so there's no fixed script to memorize.

We also want to talk about why this page took a while to go live. It got bounced more than three times over Germany's rules on Nazi content. Not because of anything graphic, there's no gore or explicit violence, you play a border guard who has a change of heart, but Germany reviews games on sensitive themes through a separate body, the USK, and we hadn't mapped their process before we submitted the first time.

We wrote the full breakdown, what got flagged and what we'd tell any other studio dealing with the same thing, here:

Page's approved now, demo's playable today. Wishlist if you haven't yet, and drop questions below, we'll be reading.

Fair question. Let's answer it properly instead of just nodding along. What you actually do Every shift, you inspect passports, visas, and permits under Herr Kommissar's growing list of rules, spotting missing stamps and forged papers while the…
