Database Detective: Minor Crimes Division · published · build 25652524
Welcome to the Custom Crimes Division! You can now play and upload your own cases to the Steam Workshop!
The Custom Crimes Division is the police division that handles reports from ordinary citizens like yourself! You can imagine the Steam Workshop as a dashboard of cases submitted by the concerned citizens of Los Zorangeles.
This feature is in open beta, which means all you need to do to enable yourself is go to Game Versions & Betas and click on workshop!
Once you do, you should see a new Custom Crimes Division login option!
As a part of this, I've made a short new case that you can download straight from the Steam Workshop! Since it's Halloween season, this is a Halloween themed case about a trick-or-treater who took one too many pieces of candy. This case should test your ability to group columns together and also features my attempt at doing an old lady voice. You can subscribe to the case here! Once you've subscribed to a case, you should see the case pop up automatically in the Custom Cases window.
Once you've solved this case (or don't care about spoilers) you can see how I created this case here! This Github repo contains every file used to make this case, including the scripts used to generate the database files and the .psd files used to make the arrest warrant and preview images.
In summary, making your own case is easy! All you need is a SQLite database file and at least one image that can be used as evidence. However, there are additional features that are supported, such as the ability to upload your own voice messages and the ability to write your own hints! You can view what features are supported here.
Since this is a new feature, I'm anticipating there to be bugs and issues related to creating and uploading cases which I would like to iron out before rolling this feature to the main branch.
I'm aiming for a month or two, which will probably be enough time to iron out issues and for there to be more cases available on the Steam Workshop!
Not currently, but it is possible. Making websites would require the additional step of downloading Unity and this feature would take some additional time for me to support. In other words, I'm not convinced this is something that people would go through the effort to make, but if this is something you're interested in, please let me know!
Nope! You should make whatever you want!
If you have any more questions regarding making your own cases, feel free to say something in the custom-cases channel in the Database Detective Discord server! This is also a good place to leave any feedback, feature requests, and bug reports when it comes to creating and playing cases using the Steam Workshop.
