Hi everyone!

I’m Simon, the developer behind Monk & The Misfit Monsters, and I’m also the solo developer working on the game. Today, I’d like to share a little story about how this game came to be.

You’ve probably heard of Journey to the West before. Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing. We all know their journey to the West. But I found myself becoming more curious about the other side of the story: the little monsters and demons who usually appear only as obstacles along the way. Then I started wondering: What if, one day, those little monsters decided that they wanted to make their own journey to the West?It started as a simple, somewhat random idea. But the more I thought about it, the more I began imagining a group of misfit characters, each with their own personality and abilities, setting out together on their own journey. And eventually, I wanted to turn that idea into a game. So I started developing it on my own.As a solo developer, I’ve been handling almost everything myself from character design, gameplay and combat systems to team building, level design, art, and all the little details in between. There have been plenty of ideas that had to be tested, changed, or even completely thrown away after I had already spent time building them. But with every experiment, mistake, and revision, Monk & The Misfit Monsters has slowly taken shape into the game I imagined. At its core, I want to create a Roguelite RPG where players can build their own team, develop their characters, experiment with different skill combinations, and make meaningful choices throughout each journey.⚔️ Tactical Combat

🎲 A Roguelite Journey Full of Surprises
Maybe you’ll fall in love with this little group of monsters. They may not be the strongest. But they might just become your favorite team. The game still has a long way to go, and there’s plenty I want to improve. But I’d like to start sharing it with players and hear what they think. That’s why the Demo will be coming in September this year. I’m hoping your feedback will help me continue shaping and improving the game as development moves forward. This is only the beginning of the journey, and I’m really looking forward to hearing what you think. If the idea of an unreliable group of little monsters making their own journey to the West sounds interesting, Wishlist Monk & The Misfit Monsters on Steam and I’ll see you in the Demo this September!Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll join me.
