About these aircraft

  • From June to October 1944, Spitfire LF Mk.IX  ML214 was flown by Ioannis Plagis, a British pilot of Greek descent who achieved at least 16 confirmed aerial victories during the war. This fighter boasts excellent flight characteristics and is capable of both turnfighting and effective boom-and-zoom attacks. It is armed with two 20 mm cannons and four 7.7 mm machine guns.
  • James Prendergast, commander of No. 414 Squadron (RCAF), flew the Spitfire Mk.XIVe “Lazy Lady V” (serial number NH903). This variant of the legendary fighter retained all the aircraft’s strengths while incorporating the more powerful Griffon engine. In addition to the two 20 mm cannons and two 12.7 mm machine guns, a 500 lb bomb can also be carried for ground attack.
  • The Hurricane was the most numerous aircraft in the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain. The FAA M variant of the Hurricane Mk.I/L is distinguished from the standard Hurricane Mk.I/L by the unique camouflage used on Fleet Air Arm training aircraft. It is ready to turn up the heat on the enemy in a dogfight with its eight 7.7 mm Browning machine guns.
