I wouldn't be a true videogame developer if I didn't delay the release at least once.
This is a difficult decision, but I have no choice but to postpone the release of Thumps & Blows. I feel bad for the five people who are eagerly waiting for it, but I think it's the right thing to do.
Developing a videogame on your own is difficult. Even more when it's your first game. Even more when it's a fighting game. Even more when you don't have a boss pushing you.
I've been working on this project for so long that I set July 29 as the release date to stay focused and finally finish it. At the time, it seemed like a realistic goal.
If it were up to me, I'd keep adding new things forever. But the game has to come out eventually, and if it doesn't do well, I'll need to find a regular job.
The truth is that, over the last month and a half, I've had to deal with several commitments and responsibilities that took much more time and energy than I expected. As a result, I barely had any time left to work on the game.
My original plan was to push through these last two weeks before launch, but the reality is that I'm exhausted, and the game's quality is starting to suffer because of it. I'm simply not in the right state of mind to finish everything in just a few days, and I'd hate to sacrifice the final quality of the game.
I've come to the conclusion that the best thing I can do right now is take a couple of days to rest and then get back to work, giving each part of the game the time it deserves.
Fortunately, I don't have any major commitments this month, and I'll make sure not to take on any new ones, so I can focus on the project without unnecessary pressure.
I've set August 26 as the new release date. I liked the original date better, but I really need the extra time.
I'd also like to thank Valve for allowing me to postpone the release. Normally, changing the release date this close to launch isn't possible. They only make exceptions in special situations, and only once, so I'll make sure to use this opportunity wisely.
I'm truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. It wasn't an easy decision, but I genuinely believe it's the right one.
If you'd like to follow the development more closely, I invite you to join the official Discord server and follow me on social media.
Thank you very much for your understanding. I'll make it up to you with the best Thumps & Blows possible!
Sincerely,
Widijou
