The latest Magic and Dedicated Server update brought to light a few minor issues. We’ve spent the last few days giving everything a thorough overhaul, fixing a number of things, tidying up and making the code more technically sound.
Already fixed
• Vitals and Dedicated Server logic
Health, Sylnos and Hunger now run smoothly under server authority. Among other things, this has resolved incorrect death states and issues with starting values.
• Starting Mana (Sylnos)
The starting bonus is now only awarded after correct initialisation and is reliably applied on the Dedicated Server.
• Hot Springs
The springs do their job as Harvest Moon said so.
• Fall damage completely overhauled
Fall damage is now based on the actual impact speed rather than the fall time. Minor jumps are ignored, whilst hard impacts cause proportionate damage.
• New basis for impact damage
The new system can also be used later on for hard physical hits, for example if someone uses magic to hurl a boulder at your head.
• Blacksmithing Items
Some placed hammers had fallen through the world because they lacked proper simple collision. The collision has been added, Naila themed designs implemented, and other blacksmithing tools have been checked.
• Tree Sounds
The wrong sound asset type had been integrated. The tree-falling sounds now use the correct cue with attenuation again.
• Sky Log Spam
The sky no longer attempts to access a non-existent player camera on the dedicated server.
• Project internally renamed to Campfire
Old module and target names have been cleanly migrated to Campfire. The editor and dedicated server now build successfully with these.
• Windows Game Icon
The build now finally features the correct Campfire icon instead of the Unreal Engine logo.
SteamVR App Name
SteamVR now correctly recognises the build as ‘Campfire’.
• Loading Level
A dedicated VR loading level featuring a campfire and title screen is already working locally. It now serves as a transition between game start, the lobby and joining a server.
• Stream Cleanup
Fixed glowing trees, moved a problematic streaming rock at Mountain Pass, removed old inventory bubbles, and checked the grip anchor of the sickle and other blades.
• Thalia
You can no longer just push her around. 😄
Prepared for the Steam multiplayer test
These features have been technically implemented and now need to be confirmed in the actual Steam build with multiple players:
• Personal player skins
• Lightspells
• Running sounds
• Kovari grip
• Hand UI
• Hand animations
• Blacksmith cooldown effects and sound
• High five including haptic feedback and sound
• New loading level when actually joining the dedicated server
As we are now switching to a system with a dedicated server, sessions will no longer be hosted on your computers.
To begin with, I will make a server available on my computer for several time slots. During this period, we will collect data on the actual server usage on my computer before we rent our own server.
And of course, it was completely inevitable that, in the midst of all this, a high-five system would also be created. Priorities. 😌
