Fellow Cultivators,We've received reports from some players about Steam connection failures, crashes, and stuttering. Below is a full troubleshooting guide — please work through it in order. Most issues can be resolved with the steps here.
One important thing to know first: playing in Steam Offline Mode does not affect this game, and it does not affect event reward multipliers. As long as you legitimately own the game on your own Steam account, the game automatically enables an offline fallback whenever Steam is offline or our servers are temporarily unreachable: event multipliers still apply, and achievements still count. It's also worth noting that this is a single-player game — all content runs locally, so it does not depend on an internet connection. The network only affects two optional features: leaderboard uploads and cloud saves.
What you'll see: The Settings page shows "Steam: Not connected. Offline mode", or a message like "Steam identity check failed. Online features are temporarily unavailable."First, understand the impact: This state only affects leaderboard uploads and cloud saves. The game itself, event multipliers, and achievements are all unaffected (see the note above). So if only the leaderboard is temporarily empty, there's no need to worry — just try again later. If you do want to fix it, work through these steps in order:
Make sure the Steam client is signed in. When Steam isn't signed in or is in Offline Mode, the game can't establish online identity verification. Switch Steam back to Online Mode, confirm you're signed in, then press the "Reconnect Steam" button on the in-game Settings page.
Use Steam's official latest verification tool. This is the most effective fix for this problem. In the Steam client, go to Help → Steam Support → My Account → Steam Client → Verify, and follow the prompts to check for corrupted files or missing components.
Uninstall and reinstall the latest Steam. If you still can't connect after verifying, your local Steam client components are damaged or out of date. Fully uninstall Steam and download the latest version from the official website (don't use old installers from third-party sources). Sign in again after reinstalling, then launch the game from your Steam library.
Always launch the game from your Steam library — don't double-click the exe in the game folder. The game needs to be started by the Steam client to have the correct launch context. Double-clicking directly is treated as a "non-Steam launch": the start screen will show a notice and try to let Steam take over, and if that fails it falls back to single-player mode.
Check for a leftover steam_appid.txt in the game folder. If you previously extracted a test build into the same folder, that file can survive an overwrite install and cause the game to read the wrong app ID. Close the game, delete the file manually, and launch again from your Steam library.
What you'll see: The window flashes and vanishes right after you launch, or the process disappears while sitting on the start screen.
Update to the latest version (highest priority). Older builds had several known launch-path issues that are fixed in the current version. In your Steam library, right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files, then wait for the update to finish.
Fully close and relaunch. The game has single-instance protection: when multiple instances exist, the newest one exits on its own. Make sure there's no leftover game process in Task Manager before launching.
Launch from your Steam library, not by double-clicking the exe (same reason as above).
Close programs that may interfere. Some screen recorders, network accelerators, antivirus tools, or IME software inject into the game process and cause native-layer crashes. Close them and try again.
Update your GPU driver. Outdated drivers are a common cause of crashes. Update to the latest stable driver from your GPU vendor's website.
Send us your logs so we can pinpoint the cause. If nothing above works, send us the entire log folder at: %APPDATA%\\Godot\\app_userdata\\暗黑修个仙\\logs (Paste that path into your File Explorer address bar to open it.) The logs record the state at the moment of the crash, which lets us locate the issue quickly.
What you'll see: Slow screen transitions, noticeable frame drops when opening panels, or combat that hitches.
Update to the latest version. Every update includes performance work, especially around combat hot paths and panel loading. Please keep the game up to date.
A brief pause the first time you open a screen is normal. To keep the main screen smooth, the game preloads panel resources during the loading bar. That one-time pause on first opening certain screens is preload cost — opening them again afterwards is noticeably faster.
Close high-usage background programs. Browsers, streaming software, and other games all compete for VRAM and CPU.
Check whether your hardware meets the minimum requirements. If your frame rate stays low, try lowering quality and effects levels in the game settings.
Restart the game if it stutters after long idle sessions. After long runtimes, some GPUs accumulate driver-side pressure; restarting restores smoothness.
Q: Steam shows as not connected — will I be missing out on game content? No. This is a single-player game; all content runs locally. Not being connected to Steam only affects leaderboard uploads and cloud saves — event multipliers and achievements still apply through the local fallback.Q: The leaderboard has no data? The leaderboard depends on online identity verification. First confirm your Steam connection per Section 1. If it's just a temporary connection issue, try again later — it doesn't affect gameplay.Q: What should I do about a cloud save conflict? A conflict means your local save and the cloud version differ. The interface will ask you to choose "Keep Local" or "Use Cloud" — please choose carefully: if your local progress is more important, choose Keep Local. Either way, a local restore snapshot is saved before anything is overwritten.Q: Will my saves survive switching computers or reinstalling Windows? If cloud saves are working, your progress syncs automatically. To be safe, we recommend manually backing up the save files in the game's user data folder.Q: An achievement didn't unlock? First confirm Steam is signed in (in Offline Mode, achievements still count as long as the game is locally confirmed as owned). Then restart the game — completed achievements are automatically re-synced to Steam.Q: The game shows a white or black screen and doesn't respond? This is usually a GPU driver issue — update your driver. You can also try running as administrator or changing the graphics rendering mode.
