Eight-Two adds a new game mechanic, system security, overhauls the economic simulation, and continues to build on systems introduced in Eight-One.
System security is a new statistic in all star systems. It ranges from 0.0 to 1.0 and determines how likely a random encounter is to spawn, as well as influencing the market in that system. Illegal items are more likely to be sold in lower security systems.
The markets in the game have been updated to better respond to player input. The previous simulation, which relied primarily on system geography and element of randomness, has been replaced. The new system should be a lot more responsive to player input and takes into account numerous factors, such as system security, and economy type when choosing which goods to populate a system's market with.
NPCs are also able to interact with the new market system, meaning that the AI you see mining when you warp into a system will actually sell those goods later. All markets now charge all a tariff as well, however this can be influenced by the player's reputation as well as the system's security level.
