Difficulty is part of Cat-Astrophy. But to us, a challenging game is not about simply stopping the player from moving forward.
A good challenge should ask a question, demand a decision, and most importantly, give you an opportunity to learn from your mistakes.
Every failure should show you something new.
During an expedition, you constantly have to react to what is happening around you. You need to read enemy patterns, decide when to attack, when to dodge, and when it is better to reposition.
⚔️ But it is not just about having fast reflexes.
Clarity: Attacks and hazards need to be readable so you can react to the information you receive.
Decisions: Good combat comes from deciding when to attack, when to dodge, and when to create distance.
Adaptation: Your build and playstyle can change depending on the situation.
Progress: Every expedition should leave you with knowledge, resources, or a new possibility.
We do not want you to finish a failed attempt feeling like you wasted your time. Maybe you learned an enemy attack pattern. Maybe you discovered a new strategy. Maybe you now know when it is better to back away.
A failure becomes valuable when it helps you make the next attempt better.
That is why we do not want to build the difficulty of Cat-Astrophy simply by increasing numbers. The challenge should come from situations that ask you to learn, react, and adapt your strategy.
And of course, there is also that feeling of satisfaction when you finally overcome something difficult. The moment when you read an enemy’s movement, dodge at exactly the right time, find the right attack, and suddenly realize that you just accomplished something that once seemed impossible.
🚀 Now you can experience it for yourself.
Play the Demo, find your own combat rhythm, and discover which situations put you to the test. And if one moment pushed you particularly hard, tell us about it on Discord.
