A clearer start: tutorials, council and the first 50 days

Players told us the opening put too many mechanics and too much text on screen at once. We've reworked the tutorial around the action you need next, shortened the early explanations, and made council decisions easier to understand. The updated 50-day demo is available now on Steam.

One lesson at a time

The campaign guide now shows one task and a Show Me button that opens the right screen or marks your destination. Extra explanations and reward details are available under Details. Later sealed letters update your current task without interrupting the screen you're using.

The first officer lesson takes you straight to an eligible officer and their command. Settlement improvements expand one project at a time, while the guide changes as you reach the town and move on to recruitment.

The Mandate, in plain language

In the divided Han realm, claiming Heaven's favour is a claim to rule. The choice now explains the stakes directly:

  • Claim it openly: rival lords act more boldly, bringing more conflict and earlier wars.
  • Keep it hidden: rival lords remain cautious longer, giving the land a respite and you more time to prepare. Existing wars continue.

The choice still lasts for the campaign. If you want to finish the sealed lessons first, you can postpone it and return through the guide's Details panel. Choosing the Mandate still ends new sealed lessons; your current lesson and its reward remain available.

See what council advice will do

Select a proposal to see its result and your next step before accepting. An opening proposal that declares war now says so directly. Advice to improve a town explains that you still need to assign someone in Invest before work begins.

The opening pledge also explains what choosing an officer means: it strengthens their standing and their bond with you. Their army keeps its current orders. Delegate returns an officer to the council's plan, and Keep Current Plan now counts as completing council practice.

We also corrected “Give me the van” to “Give me the vanguard.”

Time to learn your first battlefield command

The first live command begins paused. Select your troops, give a move order and see them respond, then issue an attack. Deployment plans and further help remain available when you want them.

A next step through day 50

After the sealed lessons, the guide follows your council's plan and offers a useful next step through the demo's first 50 days. It updates while your army marches, survivors recover or settlement work progresses, then points you back to council when your officers are ready.

The story and lesson rewards are unchanged. This update changes how and when the game explains its systems.

Try the updated demo and tell us where you still find yourself asking, “What should I do next?” Reports about a particular screen or day help us find the remaining rough spots.

Community8 Sep 2026Development Update — Beyond the ResultI want Auto Resolve to leave me with a sense of the battle I just fought. This pass improves which officers and troops the calculation counts, then presents the outcome in a short battle account. These are development-build changes following Taking Command, not an announcement of a new downloadable build. The screenshots and motion excerpt use staged encounters running through the current game.…Community7 Sep 2026Development Update — Taking CommandSince the last update, I've been working on a problem that becomes more obvious the longer I play: having plenty of choices is only useful if I can understand them in the middle of a campaign. That has meant bringing officer information together, making the menus feel like part of the same game, and going back over sieges from both sides of the wall. This post covers the development work after…Community5 Sep 2026Development Update — Making the next order clearI kept running into the same problem while testing: the answer was in one place, and the action was in another. I could see that an army was selected without being able to tell which officers were in it. A commission named a settlement in the journal while the map asked me to interpret a different marker. None of those gaps is huge by itself, but together they make the campaign feel unfinished.…
