The Babies Have a Name — Meet the Sloppies

Hello again, Slopheads.

In our last update, we hinted that BallSlop’s development-mode names were likely to change.

And they have.

More importantly, the tiny rolling creatures previously known as Baby Spheres finally have a proper name:

SLOPPIES

The little ones are Lil’ Sloppies. One is a Sloppy. A large group of them is probably a sanitation violation.

Sloppies are collected, carried, launched, rescued, stolen, banked, and occasionally fired directly into another player’s face. They are a central part of BallSlop, and “Baby Sphere” always sounded more like a temporary development label than something born inside this horrible world.

With their new name established, BallSlop’s three current modes also have their proper public identities.

SLOPPY SCOOP & STASH

Collect and bank Lil’ Sloppies.

Scoop up loose Lil’ Sloppies and carry them back to your portal before another player splats you and steals your haul.

The more you carry, the larger and harder to push you become—but all that Sloppy weight also makes you slower and more difficult to control.

Bank carefully. Or charge directly into the largest sphere you can find and make the situation everybody’s problem.

SLOPPY RASH DASH

Race through the course and finish before time runs out.

Roll through winding courses filled with traps, hazards, shortcuts, stray Sloppies, and other players who have absolutely no intention of racing fairly.

Reach the finish before the clock expires—or join the proud ranks of spheres that somehow followed every arrow and still went the wrong way.

SLOPPY BLAST BASH

Load, launch, and splat the competition.

Carry Lil’ Sloppies as ammunition, fire them through your Puke Shot, and splat the other players before they do something equally disgusting to you.

Charge Dash through incoming pukeshots, reflect shots with crystal effects, launch rivals into walls, and finish the match with the highest score and the lowest remaining dignity.

Why Change the Names?

BallSlop has developed its own vocabulary, visual identity, and increasingly questionable ecosystem.

Sloppies feel like creatures that belong here. The new mode names also make it clearer that each one is part of the same messy world rather than three unrelated prototypes.

The underlying games have not been replaced. These are the same modes currently being refined through our closed Steam Playtest—now with names capable of embarrassing us properly.

What’s Next?

We are continuing to work on:

  • 2v2 team modes

  • Enhanced controller support and navigation

  • Multiplayer voice and optional Open Mic

  • Better physics interactions

  • Arena performance without sacrificing the paint-covered mess

Work also continues toward BallSlop’s first public demo.

Until then, we need an important scientific answer:

Which would you play first—Scoop & Stash, Rash Dash, or Blast Bash?

Wishlist BallSlop, follow the Steam page, and prepare to become emotionally attached to several Lil’ Sloppies, moments before somebody fires them across the arena.

Slop it like it’s hot,

— Sloppy Joe Bro

This is our first game so we expect there to be more than a few pain points to overcome but there's only so much we can sloptest ourselves. If you get a chance to check it out and play it would be overwhelmingly helpful. Invite your friends as the slop is much more fun online with others. When you chat through the game, it picks up your voice through your mic and based on volume and pickup, it runs through the five frames you've drawn and it looks like the mouth on your sphere is actually moving and reacting as you speak. This immediately led to us creating that EULA for all you super sloppers out there... you know who you are. But after the inital panic wore off with the machinations of what people would draw... we were very excited to have this feature. You can rotate your sphere around and draw on the 3D '…
