We will be opening the public test for our next update in about an hour. We plan to keep this public test open for at least 72 hours, as this patch adds the eagerly-awaited Favor Store and associated Favor-earning mechanics to the game. This feature will require a longer duration test to get a good set of feedback. The patch also adds our newest playable creature, the Zupaysaurus, to the game! The full patch notes have been attached to this announcement. We will be bringing up five servers for play during this public test. Three of these servers have community server saves, taken from last night, uploaded onto the public test branch. We'd personally like to thank Pandamonium Chill, Life Finds a Way, and Rising Storms for allowing us to use their save files for this public test. Note that on these servers, the moderation team from these communities will have access to their regular permissions so they can run these servers as close to how they operate on public branch as possible. Additionally, all files and configs have been copied over from these servers so they should operate identically to their public branch counterparts. Please be respectful of any rules these servers may have if you choose to join one of them. Additionally, we will have a server up with a blank save file, and another that is a copy of Official 2's save file. Here is a list of all the servers we will be hosting for the public test.
Dedicated Testing NewSave: Life Cycle, Isla Titania, Blank Save
Dedicated Testing O2: Life Cycle, Isla Titania, O2's save
Dedicated_Testing PandaSave: Free Roam, Rival Shores Canvas, Pandamonium Chill's save file
Dedicated Testing LFAW: Free Roam, Rival Shores Canvas, Life Finds a Way's save file
Dedicated Testing RisingStorms: Free Roam, Rival Shores Canvas, The Rising Storms save file (locked)
For this test, we will not be running with auto-revive enabled on the NewSave nor the O2 servers. They will be running default settings as we wish to test the Favor Store and associated mechanics that allow the players to earn Favor. We have provided two special discord channels for everyone to provide feedback about the test. They can both be found in public-test-feedback. The Discussion channel can be used for casual discussion about the public test or patch notes, and the Feedback channel is for posting feedback. We'll be going through all the feedback after the test. We'd definitely like to hear what you all think of the new patch. Be wary, this will wipe your saved skins. If you wish to preserve them, make sure to save a backup of the USER_SKINS file located in Steam/steamapps/common/BeastsOfBermuda/BeastsOfBermuda/Saved/SaveGames folder. When you swap back to the public branch later, placing this file back in the folder will keep your saved skins. Here are the patch notes for this public test session. Remember, everything contained in these notes is still subject to change.
Added New Playable Creature: Zupaysaurus!
+Added the Zupaysaurus as the newest addition to Beasts of Bermuda's roster! Zupaysaurus is a Pachy-sized animal that depends on its cunning and opportunistic nature to take advantage of a fight. It has decent agility and mobility, with meek attack damage. At its base stats, it is not as fast or powerful as some other mid-size playables and depends on an arsenal of abilities to push a fight into its favor. Zupay’s mechanics are time-sensitive and adjust its playstyle, which may require a higher level of skill than some other playable types as a result.
Toxic Carrion and Bile Spit
+Zupaysaurus is an opportunistic scavenger preferring rotten meat as its diet. This is opposite to most carnivores which would prefer fresh meat. Due to the nature of the ecosystem, there may not be enough rotten meat to go around. To cope with this, Zupay can spend Stamina and Ability Power to excrete bile, causing the carcass to rot and priming it for consumption. The fresher and larger a carcass the more bile it will require to become rotten. This will benefit the ecosystem by having a dinosaur which specializes in cleaning up rotting carcasses to speed up their rate of despawn, and encouraging hunting and for dinosaurs to take Scavenger from the survival tree in order to cohabitate with Zupay. A Zupay which has recently eaten from a sufficiently (very) rotten gore will fill its plague vial and temporarily deal plague damage when it attacks.
-The Ability key makes the Zupaysaurus spit bile onto a nearby carcass, rotting it. This costs 50 Stamina and 50 Ability.
-Bile Spit takes 5.4 seconds to complete, with a long wind-up at the start. If you are attacked during the wind-up, the spit is interrupted.
-You cannot use Bile Spit unless you are standing still, not sitting, not laying down, and not grabbed. Moving cancels it.
-Bile Spit affects multiple carcasses at once if they are near one-another.
-The amount of rot applied scales down with carcass size. Small carcasses rot quickly; very large carcasses require far more effort. A Zupaysaurus can, alternatively, leg a large carcass and rot the legs individually.
-You cannot spit bile onto a carcass that is already 100% rotten.
-Using Bile Spit while stealthed will take you out of stealth.
-Guard your carcasses well against the Zupaysaurus. Behind a turned back, they may spoil your food!
*Note that Zupaysaurus' Bile Spit's audio and visual effects can be disabled with the Emetophobia filter.
Plague
+The Zupaysaurus has a unique resource called Plague. Plague is gained by eating rotten carcasses and poisonous plants. While the Zupaysaurus has Plague stored, it can choose to allow its bites to inflict Plague damage onto its target. Plague increases the rate at which the victim's food and water drain. This condition, however, has a couple constraints. First, this increase in drain rate begins phasing in at 1.32 Growth or above, and is fully effective at Growth 2.5+. The intent behind this mechanic is that the Zupaysaurus becomes increasingly effective at exhausting and hunting creatures as they get larger, as the effect of this new secondary damage type become more prevalent at larger growths. Having high comfort reduces or even fully negates the effect of having Plague damage stacked onto your character. Additionally, this effect will not effect you if you are at or below the 'Paused Growth' threshold in Gauntlet.
-The Zupaysaurus can choose when to inflict Plague damage by toggling it on and off via the Special 2 keybind. It works identically to Palaeophis' venom toggle
-When you have Plague on your character, a new Plague status icon shows up. Additionally, Plague has its own combat log symbol, HUD element (for the resource), and it shows up on group member health bars alongside Venom and Bleed
-Sitting or resting increases how rapidly you heal Plague
-Eating Charcoal will remove Plague, and when you have Plague present on your character, you can see charcoal on the compass while using scent
-Plague damage scales based on how much damage you deal relative to your opponent's maximum health. Larger creatures take proportionately less Plague damage per bite than smaller ones.
-Wiehenvenator's Identify ability now shows Plague
Fearful Gaze
+During the night, the Zupaysaurus can be an uncanny foe. This uncanniness leads to a new debuff the Zupaysaurus can inflict on its target called Fearful Gaze. Zupaysaurus in a group apply Fearful Gaze to creatures they look at. Each stack reduces the recipient's Comfort by 10, to a maximum of 4 stacks and -40 Comfort. Two or more Zupaysaurus in the same group must meet the criteria at once for Fearful Gaze to apply. Two Zupaysaurus in separate groups will not stack with one-another.
+All of the following must be true for Fearful Gaze to apply:
-It must be night time (6 PM to 6 AM)
-The Zupaysaurus must be in a group, and the recipient must not be in that group
-The Zupaysaurus and the recipient must either both be in a burrow, or both not be in a burrow
-The Zupaysaurus and the recipient must be within 30 meters, in line of sight, and the Zupaysaurus must be facing the recipient
-The Zupaysaurus must not be sitting or laying down
+A particle effect appears over your victim on your own client when you are applying Fearful Gaze, and you receive a positive status icon telling you that you are doing so. Mousing over that icon explains how Fearful Gaze works.
Ability Mimicry
By pressing its Special key (X) and selecting the center, 'Learn' option, Zupaysaurus can steal a copy of another dinosaur’s ability for a brief duration. To summarize the ability, Zupaysaurus gets to copy another creature’s special ability with reduced potency compared to the original creature. Only one mimic can be active at a time, though a Zupaysaurus can store up to three memories for later usage. By default, Zupay will have no mimics, and must find creatures to steal mechanics from presently in the world.
The Effects of active mimicry are temporary. Once a mimic is learned it is stored as a single use memory that can be seen via holding down the Special key (X). Up to three kinds of different mimics can be stashed and activated later. Only one can be used at a time, and similar to a potion, it can only be used once before it’s gone and must be reacquired. The timer for an active mimic varies by which creature you are mimicking, with some lasting as long as fifteen minutes. Others, as short as three. You can cancel an active mimic by forcing the activation of another type of mimic or by opening the Character UI and clicking on the status condition for that mimic.
+To learn, face a creature within 100 meters and begin learning. The process takes ten seconds. A particle effect appears over the observed target, and the Zupaysaurus animates while playing a mix of its own chatter and the chatter of the creature it is studying. On success it plays the friendly emote; on failure, submissive.
+Learning fails if the target moves out of line of sight, moves too far away, if you stop facing them, if you sprint, if you attack, or if you die.
+The Zupaysaurus has three memory sockets. Memories are consumable - activating one empties its socket. A new memory cannot be created without an open socket, so the Mimicry wheel also lets you forget a memory without using it.
+An activated memory lasts 3-15 minutes, depending on creature type. While active, the Zupaysaurus gains that creature's ability and/or stat buffs, and a status condition shows in the corner of the screen. You can click any mimicry status condition on the Character UI to cancel it immediately.
+The Zupaysaurus must be 0.8 Growth or larger to learn a mimicry, and it cannot mimic creatures that are below 0.8 Growth.
+The Zupaysaurus can learn mimicry from AI creatures.
+The Zupaysaurus cannot learn to mimic another Zupaysaurus, and will receive a failure message on screen if it tries.
+Mimicry status conditions save through logout, and are removed on death so they do not persist through resurrection.
+Mimicked abilities remap the Zupaysaurus' keybinds to those of the ability they are mimicking. For example, if the Zupaysaurus mimics Saichania and gains Spiky Shield, its Ability key now remaps to using Spiky Shield and the Zupaysaurus can no longer use its Bile Spit default ability until its mimicry wears off or is cancelled. Take care with using your mimics and plan ahead accordingly.
Mimicry: What Each Creature Grants
+Acrocanthosaurus - Intimidating Roar at 12% damage reduction, untalented. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Apatosaurus - 5/3 Shelterer Lasts 15 minutes.
+Archelon and Saichania - A weaker version of Saichania's Spiky Shield ability. Spiky Shield mimicry reflects 40% of incoming damage back at the attacker, while Zupaysaurus receives 60%. It can only be used when not on diminishing returns for Spiky Shield, and it does not grant Ability on a successful block. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Arganodus, Ichthyovenator, Pteranodon, Tropeognathus - Dart. Improved Dart at 2/3. Lasts 15 minutes.
+Auroraceratops, Oryctodromeus - burrow digging. Activating this mimicry while in a burrow places you into burrowing stance automatically, and while it is active the Zupaysaurus ticks its cave timer as though it were above ground, preventing Restlessness and removing it if already present. Lasts 15 minutes.
+Coahuilaceratops - Clotting at 2/3. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Elasmosaurus, Horseshoe Crab, Kronosaurus - Elusiveness at 2/3, meaning it breaks if the Zupaysaurus sprints, attacks, eats a fish, or takes damage. Lasts 15 minutes.
+Kaprosuchus, Velociraptor, Frog - Pounce, Kaprosuchus variant. Pounce mimicry increases damage by 1.25x. The Zupaysaurus has additional hitboxes on its feet that are active while pouncing, and a hitbox dedicated solely to the pounce itself. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Lurdusaurus, Pachycephalosaurus - Charge, Lurdu variant. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Malawania, Mosasaurus - Archerfish, lasts 3 minutes.
+Megaraptor - Evasive Maneuver at 3/3, lasts 3 minutes.
+Palaeophis - Regurgitate. A mimicking Zupaysaurus regurgitates rancid carcasses. Two stacks of Frenzy per regurgitation for a max of 4. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Parasaurolophus - Alarm Call. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Tyrannosaurus rex - Its crouch Ambush speed boost, plus Keen Olfactory at 2/3 as a passive. Lasts 15 minutes.
+Utahraptor - Dual Slash, hard-hitting attack. Dual Slash mimicry deals considerably less injury damage than the Utahraptor's own Dual Slash. Lasts 3 minutes.
+Wiehenvenator - Identify, at the equivalent of two talent points invested. Lasts 3 minutes.
Vocal Mimicry
+The Zupaysaurus can imitate the voice of any creature it has scented, tracked by its Scent Trial.
+Vocal mimicry is accessed through the emote action wheel. It occupies the upward direction on the wheel, and can be opened on a controller with the right bumper.
+After selecting a creature, your 1-5 calls, pain grunts, death sound, and several other sounds will match that of the mimicked creature. Selecting the Zupaysaurus, always placed in the top-left corner, returns your calls to normal.
+The Zupaysaurus mimics all of a creature's sounds, not just its vocalizations. If a creature lacks a particular sound, the Zupaysaurus' own sound is used instead.
+Mimicking Arganodus vocals results in you playing fish kiss sounds. Mimicking the Horseshoe Crab plays crab sounds for your calls and while moving. You can also mimic the Malawania, Auroraceratops, and Frog, which let your vocalizations play the sounds these critters have.
Diet
+The Zupaysaurus' diet matches the Megaraptor's.
+The Zupaysaurus is immune to the Comfort bias decrease that rotten meat normally causes, and cannot get sick from eating rotten carcasses.
+The relationship is inverted for fresh food. A Zupaysaurus receives negative bias and can get sick from eating carcasses that are not rotten enough to be showing flies and playing the flies
+The Zupaysaurus gains more satiation from carcasses the more rancid they are.
sound. The Forager talent mitigates this, exactly as it does rotten carcasses for every other creature.
+The Zupaysaurus has its own carcass scent prompts, indicating that fresh carcasses are unpleasant and rotten ones are appealing.
Talents
+The Zupaysaurus' talent tree includes Venomous, Vigilance, and Lethal Fangs. Venomous and Lethal Fangs also apply to Plague resource and Plague damage. The rest of the tree is fairly standard.
**Other Zupaysaurus Notes**
+The Zupaysaurus shrinks significantly when entering burrows, allowing it to move through them comfortably into 1x1 passages
The Favor Shop
+The Favor Shop has finally come to Beasts of Bermuda. The Favor Shop is a new mechanic that allows players to earn, and then spend, Favor they acquire. The shop includes, for each creature,
-Eye scars (left eye, right eye, and both eyes)
-Three unique morphs that alter the appearance of the creature
-Muzzle scars
-Copper Jewelry (individual body parts, and full body set)
-Warrior Tattoos (individual body parts, and full body set)
-Deity Tattoos (one for each deity, three total)
-Skull Mask
+In addition, players can also purchase:
-Reset Talents
-Change Gender
-Change Specialization
-Change or Edit Skin
+Additionally, players can try to summon storms. Storms come in one of three variants, at the player's choosing. Windstorm, Lightningstorm, or Rainstorm.
+The Oryctodromeus can purchase decorative burrow elements with Favor
Earning Favor
+Each unique water source discovery now gives 50 Favor
+Each unique biome discovery now gives 50 Favor, or 75 for aquatics
+Each new scent discovery now gives 65 Favor, or 100 for aquatics
+Each new shrine discovery now gives 100 Favor, or 150 for aquatics
-Note that you will not gain Favor if your Trial that corresponds with this discovery type is at or above 100% complete. This is to prevent players from earning excessive Favor if the map is changed.
-Note that aquatics earn more favor for three of these discovery types because they cannot visit water sources.
+Visiting a naturally spawned World Event now grants 50 Favor. The event must be in progress for you to receive it, and players inside the radius when it activates will receive it.
-If a server's configs have been set to spawn World Events more frequently, they award proportionately less Favor
+Favor is earned passively from Growth ticks. On Life Cycle this only happens inside the Gauntlet, and is diminished by poor food and/or water stats. Free Roam awards Favor at all times, at all Growth levels, at a much lower rate.
+Weather boosts your Favor gain rate, but only if the weather was not set by console command.
+Players with existing progress in the Shrines Visited, Biomes Visited, Scents, and Water Sources Visited Trials are credited Favor retroactively when their save file updates to this patch's version.
+Mechanics: Players with existing progress in the Shrines Visited, Biomes Visited, Scents, and Water Sources Visited Trials are credited Favor retroactively when their save file updates to this patch's version
Spending Favor
+Cosmetics cost an average of 1500 Favor, with smaller cosmetics costing 1000 and larger ones costing 2000
+Reskin costs 100 Favor.
+Changing gender costs 150 Favor.
+Changing specialization costs 500 Favor.
+Storms can be purchased at any time, and cost 500 Favor to summon
-Note there is a 2.5 hour cooldown server-side when a storm is successfully summoned by players
+Decorative Ory burrow items cost 5-75 Favor each. This does include the large, glowing crystal at 15.
+Cosmetics and specialization swaps can only be purchased while you are dead
+Regender, Retalent, Reskin, and Oryctodromeus burrow items can only be purchased while you are alive
+On Free Roam servers that have auto-revive enabled, dying now still allows you to purchase from the death screen, or from the save select screen before you spawn in again
+All cosmetic items purchased from the Favor Shop are character-specific rather than account-wide. The achievement for unlocking a cosmetic on a particular dinosaur type remains account-wide.
+Character-specific items survive migration to another server
+Items you already own are marked with a checkbox on the storefront
Storm Summoning World Events
+When a player purchases an attempt to summon a storm, a unique world event will spawn at the nearest appropriate world event location that is not currently in use by a regular world event. Aquatics spawn aquatic nodes, terrestrials spawn at the nearest terrestrial node, and semi-aquatics can spawn at either. This world event will be to summon a storm, the type of the player's choosing. A tower will spawn at the center of this world event. Vocalizing within the world event area will grant support to the storm, filling the tower's support of summoning the storm. Alternatively, the tower can be damaged by attacking it with any regular attack, and has 50,000 health. This is how players can reject the attempt to summon a storm. Each vocalization fills the tower by 1%, and each player can only contribute a vocalization once per five seconds so spammy calls (lurdu distress, for example) cannot over-contribute towards supporting the storm. If players destroy the tower before it is fully supported, the summon will fail and the tower will be destroyed.
-Players can interact with the tower in the center of the storm summoning world event to check the progress towards completion. Additionally, the tower glows and pulses more rapidly the closer to completion it is.
-Note that a storm tower cannot succeed in summoning a storm if a storm is already in progress on the map. Additionally, storm summon events cannot be purchased if a storm is already in progress. Nothing prevents a storm from naturally occurring during an attempt to summon a storm of another type. Do keep in mind that storms will not typically spawn naturally immediately after a storm ends, so this is the safest window to attempt to summon a weather event without the server's natural weather interrupting a player's attempt to control it.
-After a storm tower successfully summons a storm, the ability to purchase a storm tower will go on cooldown for 2.5 hours.
-Note that players can purchase other storm summoning world event while others are active on the map, so long as one has not yet succeeded in summoning a storm.
-Storm summoning world events last ten minutes, and begin that ten minute timer once a player enters the world event area. The event will remain inactive indefinitely until a player enters the event area, giving players who summon a world event time to get there to begin.
Leaderboard Rewards
+Monthly leaderboard resets now grant their corresponding leaderboard skin achievements and inventory items. First place receives Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Second and third receive Silver and Bronze. Fourth and fifth receive Bronze.
-Note that players keep these rewards permanently, and only need to earn them one time. These are server-specific rewards.
+Achievements earned while offline now queue up and are shown to you when you next log in. This is relevant for earning Leaderboard achievements.
+Dinosaurs that have been the recipient of console commands are no longer added to the leaderboard upon death.
__**Other New Content**__
Skins
+Added new Parasaurolophus Skin: Contagen Remake by Soals, A.L, & Korvinox
+Added new Parasaurolophus Skin: Paintloosa by Korvinox
+Added new Saichania Skin: Sunset by Korvinox & Natahi4
+Added masking compatibility to Utahraptor, Velociraptor, and Zupaysaurus, allowing artists to hide feathers in body regions in order to place armor or jewelry textures on them. Note this made the leaderboard reward armors work nicely on feathered creatures.
Isla Titania
A significant amount of map edits have been made to Isla Titania's water bodies, with the goal of opening the map up to large aquatics and improving migration routes between its lakes. Several locations have been given link caves. These are simplified caves designed to be like highways to get you quickly from one location to the next. They may be embellished/made more unique in the future, but for now practicality was prioritized in the name of time management and aquatic/land dino interaction enrichment.
+Added new cliff structures around Savannah River, around the remodeled lake, and around Titans Rise. This should intercept the camera's max view distance and improve some player's FPS as a result, in addition to adding more ambush potential and nesting locations for fliers.
+Various locations on Titania, new and old, have been adjusted to become tidal crossing zones that expose themselves at low tide. Existing crossing zones have been made more dangerous/advantageous for aquatics to snatch passing land animals.
+Tranquil Falls lake is now larger and deeper, and has caves that allow for large Mosasaurus access
+Drymouth Puddle has been expanded into Drymouth Oasis, complete with an ocean access cave and savannah river access cave that accommodates large Mosasaurus
+The Lagoon is now deeper and larger, large mosassaurus still need to access it from the inlets, but should now have more space in the lake for combat
+Impact Lake has been made larger and been given an aquatic access cave to savannah river.
+Muddy Oasis has been expanded and deepened, given cliffs, and given a link-cave to the ocean and to savannah river
+Added new link caves connects the Inlets to both Beach Falls Lake and Palm Forest Lake. These caves support larger growth aquatics.
+Added new link cave that connects Saltmarsh to Savannah River. These caves support larger growth aquatics.

+Fixed: The Steam desktop global virtual device is no longer recognized in-game when wine-wayland is enabled, which was causing incorrect mappings and double input
+Fixed: Easy Anti Cheat no longer fails to load on Steam Deck and Linux machines using Proton. Update to Proton 11-5 or newer to prevent the Easy Anti Cheat splash screen getting stuck on the loading screen.
+Updated AMD FSR2 support through the newer EM-11 patchset, and removed deprecated dw-proton patches superseded by EM-11
+DualShock 4 (PS4 controller) compatibility is being tested on Steam Deck and Linux machines using Proton. DualShock 4 already works on Windows; on Steam Deck and Linux, try the PROTON_SONY_HIDRAW_XINPUT=1 %command% launch option.
Admin
+Admin: Added new config variable, WorldEventBuffWeights. This allows server owners to bias which World Events are more or less common. The default weight for any World Event is 1.0, and unspecified events assume 1.0. It goes under the header in the Game.ini file. For example:
!WorldEventBuffsToNotUse=ClearArray
+WorldEventBuffWeights=(Event=EVENT_AutoResurrection,Weight=2.0f) ;Twice as common
+WorldEventBuffWeights=(Event=EVENT_PledgeAmplify,Weight=0.5) ;Half as common
Anti-Cheat and Moderation
+Damage between players is now recorded in the server log in all cases, so moderators can review any fight after the fact
+Servers now automatically detect and report mass-kill activity to the game's moderation team as it happens
-Server owners can additionally have offenders kicked automatically with the console variable BB.AntiCheat.MassKillAutoKick 1
Mechanics Changes
+Mechanics: Pachycephalosaurus, Lurdusaurus, and Zupaysaurus can no longer use Primary or Secondary Attack while charging
+Mechanics: You can no longer attack immediately after exiting a charge. You can attack 0.5 seconds after the charge ends.
+Mechanics: Adjusted rotten carcass sickness chance and Comfort bias calculations so that if you are receiving negative bias from a carcass, you may also get sick from that carcass. The two now line up.
QoL Changes
+QoL: Charcoal within 250 meters now shows up on the compass when you are sick or need to recover from Plague Damage
+QoL: Pteranodon now has a cooldown icon that displays while its Aerial Acrobatics ability is on cooldown
+QoL: Any bodies of freshwater within a naturally occurring World Event that has just become active are now filled, cleaned, and have all boringness removed

+QoL: The Character Save Selection screen no longer causes a lag spike caused by an assertion regarding cloud saves
Balance Changes
+Balance: Reduced Stamina Damage by 25% in all scenarios
+Balance: 5/3 Scavenger now protects you from eating bad meat up to the point where the carcass gives its strongest, most negative scent prompt. Once a carcass reaches that point, you have a chance to get sick even at 5/3 Scavenger. Lower levels of Scavenger protect only against less rotten carcasses. Negative bias now also begins at that same point, so receiving negative bias from a carcass always matches the point at which that carcass can make you sick.
+Balance: Carnivores now deal 10% less carcass damage while eating. Carcasses lose meat more slowly while being eaten from.
**Archelon**
+Balance: Archelon can no longer gain Shield from countering and being struck by another Archelon
+Balance: AI critters can no longer give Archelon Shield when hitting its counter
**Pachycephalosaurus**
