Welcome to the New Release for Model Trains
We take our work on modular trains and accurate train physics further. While July was all about accurately modeled rolling stock, the August build takes it further to train formations. You can now build custom formations, save blueprints and run them as often as you want. Have more control over train navigation in your networks by managing blocks and speed limits through signals and junctions.
Train builder: assemble locomotives and coaches into a formation, with the game computing its combined properties (total mass, total length, top speed, minimum curve radius, weakest coupler limit, and brake continuity).
Formation editing: drag rolling stock from the library onto your train, bulk-duplicate runs of cars, and insert, remove, reorder, or swap vehicles.
Formation validation: trains are checked for mechanical viability before they can run.
Blueprints: save a formation as a reusable, shareable blueprint. Blueprints export and import between layouts, are version-stamped, and degrade gracefully when a referenced part is missing.
Train Fleet: spawn trains from your blueprints into a fleet, edit or delete individual instances without affecting the original blueprint, and save an edited instance as a new train.
Live vehicles: each vehicle in a spawned formation is created as its own live instance, starting from its designed capability and correct starting state.
Signalling: Control max allowed speed on blocks with Signals.
New save menu interface with a clearer saved-games list view.
New in-game UI across the game scene, built on the new Trax design system (v1).
New rocks and terrain props.
New trees and plants available through the foliage tool to use in layouts.
Junctions, Switches and Signals show their block controls when selected.
Refreshed the rolling stock data.
Vehicle definitions can now change mid-session (including mod updates) without disrupting active trains; revised definitions apply on the next spawn.
The game now pauses when sent to the background.
Groundwork for network simulation: a unified track segment and span data model, a network graph of connection points, and a single query layer for track geometry and condition.
Props now keep their height offset when you modify the terrain beneath them.
Fixed prop advanced transform values moving randomly.
The train horn button now plays a sound.
Game audio no longer keeps playing when the game is in the background.
Background music no longer auto-plays while the game is paused.
Fixed the Continue Game button breaking after deleting the last saved file.
Fixed being unable to exit fullscreen because Escape was bound to the settings menu.
Numerous UI tweaks and fixes across the new interface.
Removed props that did not fit the current art style.
Next Update is very exciting with authentic train motion, greater network control and a brand new way to run your complex networks. Stay tuned!
