I’m Sinburn, the writer and creative director of the game just dropping in to keep you all up to date on where we are with the game.
From our point of view, things are going great. We set ourselves the goal of making the game within 2 years and so far everything is on track to make that happen. I’ve probably just cursed us by saying that but let’s not get superstitious.
For those who follow our Patreon, we have been managing to get a regular update out frequently and from the three of us who started working on the first game our team has grown with more artists, animators and programmers to help us keep production at the pace we wanted.
We learned a lot making that game and I hope you will see the improvement in polish when you get your hands on Kingpin.
In terms of the main story, I’d say we are three-quarters there. From my perspective as the writer, I feel that we are really heading towards the end as some things go right and a few things go wrong that will lead to the resolution of everything that’s happened. It’s exciting.
Even though the main story is so close to completion, there are still other side branches that need work. Once we have the game written we will also want to go over it thoroughly and potentially add to parts of the story to add more variation to how scenes play out or choices about who to have sex with at particular moments. So, there is still a lot to do.
Animation has been a regular source of challenges for us. The act of animating two people having sex is far more complex and nuanced than I had realised. Finding animators who can do it well and enough of them to make sure we hit our targets has been difficult.
We have also faced challenges in the engines that we use for creating content. Daz Studio is used for creating the still images but for animations it lacks the appropriate tools so we use Blender for the animation. This has caused no end of headaches with maintaining consistency with how the scenes look between the animations and the stills.
These challenges have taught us a lot and wherever we work on next will hopefully be even smoother and more polished than Kingpin and Kingpin is already looking darn good.
Finish the main story, then work out how life looks for our player character after that. I’d like to say it was already 100% planned but the thing is, you bump into things in production that impact how you want things to go. Take Candy, for example.
Candy is a character we introduced into the game and she has been such a hit with the Patreon members, she needs a much bigger part than she was originally envisioned to have. The same could be said of some of the other side characters who have stolen our hearts.
We need to add in the extra side routes/endings. These are mostly NTR routes that break away from the main story and lead to different conclusions but there are some other ones as well. We have started these but there’s still a lot to do.
Even once everything is done, we will still need to go through the game time and time again to make sure the routes all work correctly and that any images that aren’t up to scratch get improved. I know there is a lot at the start of development that really needs going over to make it as good as some of the stuff from later.
There’s also things like translations to look into. Basically, loads still to do but, all fingers crossed, we seem to be on schedule.
Phew, okay, back to it.
We went to get this game out to you guys as soon as we can in the best state we can get it.
Cheers.
Sinburn and Jim
