Introducing GRIEFS SURFACE

Formerly known as GRIEFS Texture Ripper, SURFACE represents the next evolution of the project.

As the software has grown beyond texture extraction into a complete material authoring and processing application, the original name no longer reflected its broader capabilities. While SURFACE builds upon the same core functionality, it has been completely rewritten from the ground up using Rust and WGPU, delivering significant improvements in performance, quality, flexibility, and future expandability.

Thank you to everyone who supported the project over the years. This rewrite would not have been possible without you.

What's New

  • Completely rewritten architecture (Rust + WGPU)

  • New rendering engine

  • Redesigned user interface

  • Improved PBR generation pipeline

  • HDR & EXR import/export

  • Filter Stack (Pixel Art, Kuwahara, Toon, Cel Shading, and more)

  • Height blending

  • Runtime hardware upscaling (non-AI)

  • Improved seamless tiling

  • Redesigned extraction engine

  • Native Linux support

  • Offline activation for the PRO Web edition

  • Countless workflow, stability, and performance improvements

...and much more.

FAQ

Is SURFACE a new product?

No. SURFACE is the direct evolution of GRIEFS Texture Ripper. It's the same product with a new name, a completely rewritten foundation, and a much broader vision for the future.

Will GTR be discontinued?

No. SURFACE is GTR moving forward. We will continue developing and expanding it with new features and improvements.

I already own GTR. Do I get SURFACE?

Yes. Everyone who purchased GTR on Steam or through the web has received the equivalent paid version of SURFACE.

Will Steam users continue receiving updates?

Yes. Existing Steam owners receive lifetime access and lifetime updates. There are no subscriptions, annual maintenance fees, or paid upgrade requirements.

Why does the web version mention "12 months of updates"?

The Steam and web editions use different licensing models, not different feature sets.

The web version is designed primarily for professionals and teams who may need multiple activations, while Steam remains the best option for individual users. Our goal is to maintain feature parity between both versions.
