The tavern is open, and the dice are on the table.
Skifa is a medieval dice Farkle-like: you push your luck one throw at a time, bank your points before you go bust, and build a cup of strange dice, tarot cards and charms that bend the rules your way. The free demo lets you play the opening stretch of the real game today.
Play the Skifa Demo on the store page.
The demo is a short episode played on the real map:
Two fights against the Peasant. He plays to 2,000 points, and he's a good way to learn the game.
A shop. Spend what you've won on tarot cards, charms and new dice. You don't get anything for free in here.
The Lesser Crow King. He's the boss at the end of the road: best of three games to 3,000 points, and he brings his birds.
One life. Lose any fight and the run ends. Start again and try a different strategy.
Let me come back to the beginning. It all started 500 years ago when Farkle was invented...
No, that is too far into the past.
It started when Kingdom Come: Deliverance popularized that game...
No, that is not it either.
It all started with Marek coming with an idea of a spinoff of Farkle. He wanted to play it at a medieval festival where we spend over a week every year.
Funny part is, I was preparing that idea as well. While his was focused on trinkets, mine was about special dice.
While mine was already too complicated to be played on a real board in the middle of nowhere, he already has pushed his to have a great, working prototype.
Not only that, as a master woodcrafter, he and his talented wife already prepared a board for it.
Above photo captured a game where Marek play with our other friend, amazing medieval cobbler - Andrzej.
Long story short the game was changed, innovated and split into different sub-modes during our medieval fest.
Above photo shows my game with my other friend, Kasia. I hope to come back to talk more about her later, when I will post an announcement about the music.
Another person that I must mention was Mecenas. In secret, he has prepared a real threat for us. I do not want to spoil it but with his permission it was memorized in Skifa, so you will be able to experience it yourself when the full game will be released.
This photo shows a board Mecenas made for dice poker tournament. He is holding it every year now.
Dice are in our blood.
We play several other dice games on these tournaments, from which many will be available in Skifa as minigames.
All the photos were used thanks to the great Radko Kędzierzawy
The main game loop is done and working really well. All the enemies and bosses are implemented. I already went several times over the events.
What is at very WIP level are the minigames.
Some of them as Highest, Dice Poker or Dice Tower and few others are fully done and rather in a good shape to release. Around 14, though are still not there. I am trying to incorporate some medieval dice games, but they are either boring or rules are too complicated for minigames. I am looking for something in between.
It is especially interesting to play all these other games with dice meant to win Skifa. To illustrate that, dice that throws 1 all the time is good for Skifa but not that great for Dice Poker. Dice that throws 6 all the time is great for Dice Poker and most of the time bad for Skifa.
The other thing that is pretty much done is the content, all the artifacts, pins etc. are there, require some balance, perhaps.
Demo’s free now.
Wishlist the full game, tell me what you want in the next post.
See you next time,
Chris.
p.s. at some point during the development I realized that I don't even know how popular Farkle is on Steam. When I found out there are two games coming to the Steam H2 2026... I laughed again. All these coincidences are funny.
Check them out: p.p.s. When I was searching for these I found out there are even more. Well, hopefully my game will be in a good company among these farklelikes.
Cheers
