The Story Behind Noble Duty's Localization (New Devlog!)

Hey everyone, BTrain here!

If you caught our previous updates, you already know that we have a Simplified Chinese build of Grey Heritage: Noble Duty in the works. Today, I want to give you a more in-depth look at the challenges behind making this happen and what it means for the future of the studio.

Ever since launching Noble Duty in English, it’s been weighing on me that our Asian audience couldn't continue the story. As a developer who grew up playing fan-translated JRPGs, I know exactly how much it stings when a language barrier gets in the way of playing a great game.

Taking the leap to fund this localization was a big step, but it is something I truly wanted to do. We are planning to officially launch this update to coincide with the game's first anniversary during the upcoming Steam Party-Based RPG Fest.

You can check out some early screenshots and hear the full story of the localization process in our newest devlog:

What about Counter Gambit? Bringing this localization to life creates a new question for our upcoming finale, Grey Heritage: Counter Gambit. Should we run a pre-order Kickstarter to fund its localization?

To be clear: Counter Gambit is already fully funded and deep in development for our 2027 release, so the game is launching regardless! But a Kickstarter could help us bring the game to more languages—like Japanese or Portuguese—without pulling from our core development budget. We could offer Steam keys for Faded Vision, Noble Duty, and Counter Gambit as part of the campaign.

This is completely new territory for VelCrest Games, and I want to ask you directly: Do you care about localizations, and is a campaign something you would want to fund as a backer? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

And if you haven't already, please help us out by wishlisting Counter Gambit!
