Hello everyone!

Welcome back to our second Steam development update!

Last time, we introduced the vision behind Thveit. Today we'd like to take a closer look at one of the aspects we're most passionate about, creating a world that truly feels alive.

For us, Thveit isn't simply a city builder. It's a place where settlers have daily routines, wildlife roams freely, Norse folklore becomes part of everyday life, and every new settlement tells its own unique story.

A world built on layers

Every new realm in Thveit begins with procedural generation, creating unique islands, forests, rivers, vegetation, and natural resources that shape how your settlement develops.

On top of that foundation, handcrafted mountains, carefully placed landmarks, and a storybook-inspired art direction help every world feel both unique and memorable.

As development continues, we're expanding systems like procedural rivers, allowing waterways to naturally influence settlement planning, transportation, and logistics.

Norse folklore brought to life

Folklore sits at the very heart of Thveit.

Rather than serving only as inspiration, mythical beings become part of the living world you'll explore.

Throughout your journey you'll encounter creatures inspired by Scandinavian folklore, each with their own personality, behaviours, habitats, and stories. Some may become trusted companions, others might simply observe your settlement from afar, while a few may present entirely different challenges.

As you meet them, you'll gradually fill your in-game Bestiary, learning more about every creature and the role it plays within the world.

Settlers with lives of their own

We want every village to feel like a real community.

Every settler has their own home, profession, workplace, daily routine, and favourite places to spend their free time.

Rather than existing solely to perform jobs, villagers work, relax, socialise, explore, and simply enjoy everyday life within the settlement you've created.

It's these quiet moments that help transform a collection of buildings into a place that feels genuinely alive.

Wildlife, companions, and cats

Life in Thveit extends beyond your villagers.

The world is home to wildlife roaming the forests, livestock grazing peacefully within your pastures, and of course.. cats.

Whether they're curled up near a homestead, wandering between houses, or being carried by your settlers, cats are one of the many little details that help make every settlement feel warm and welcoming.

Building a storybook world

Every artistic decision in Thveit - from lighting and colour palettes to weather, foliage, and atmosphere - is made with one goal in mind:

Creating a cozy world you'll simply enjoy spending time in.

We want every sunrise, rainstorm, snowfall, and quiet evening beside a campfire to feel like stepping into the pages of an illustrated storybook.

This is only one small glimpse into the living world we're building.

A loaf of bread starts as a field of rye. A mug of mead starts as a row of barley. A warm coat starts as a sheep in a pasture. This time we finally sat down and walked the whole economy from field to table - and it turned into one of our biggest devlogs yet. Today we'd like to share a lo…Community27 Jul 2026Norse Folklore Comes to Life - Devlog #3Hello everyone 👋, Ever since we began designing Thveit , we knew we didn't want Norse mythology to simply be decoration. Many games use Vikings as an aesthetic. You build longhouses, wear fur cloaks, place a few runestones, and that's where the mythology ends. For us, mythology is part of everyday life. The people settling these lands genuinely believe the forests are inhabited, the sea answer…
