A demo has been placed on your desk. It is Week 1 of the night shift, in full, at no cost to you.

The work is solitaire. Nine deals a night, each with a number you are expected to reach. Cards pay CHIPS, the CHAIN multiplies them, and the chain heats as you score and cools the moment you draw. Reaching the number is not the same as playing tidily. MGMT is interested in the number.

Between deals you shop. Programs install into your tray and stay for the rest of the run: a free cell, a Jack that stacks anywhere, a chain that runs twice as hot. You are encouraged to spend. The building has your best interests at heart and a copy of your file.

Every third night is a REVIEW. One rule is bent for the evening, at our discretion, without notice. Hearts may score nothing. The deck may decline to recycle. You may be asked to work without a score readout. Hit the number anyway and no further action will be taken.

Clear the week and you go home. Lose a single deal and the night ends there.

The machine is a 1998 model and it has been on this floor longer than anyone currently employed. It keeps its own records. It is not neutral about how you are doing.

Wishlisting is voluntary and closely monitored.
