Hi!
In preparation for the Steam Frame release, SUPERHOT VR has received a number of upgrades to make it ready for the new platform. From graphical improvements to quality of life tweaks – this patch was meant to ensure that the game is ready for the newest technology and, at the same time, to let it feel and look better than ever before.
Having prepared SUPERHOT VR for Steam Frame, we decided to apply those same upgrades and tweaks for the PC version of SUPERHOT VR to unify the experience for all players. All of them are straight upgrades, but should you want for any reason roll back game version – we are leaving this option open to you.
Improved detection of controller movement due to more precise time calculation – tiny shakes due to involuntary hand shifts are filtered out, while even very slow hand movements are registered faithfully and progress time properly, also lowering the chance of losing controller tracking;
Game now launches straight to interactive gameplay – disabled piOS booting sequence so that you can start playing instantly;
Scan lines disabled (setting to enable added)
Due to the overall improvement of resolution in VR over the years, we have disabled scan lines (those diagonal lines covering many game objects) by default, as those were no longer needed for smooth user experience. This post-processing effect was meant to fight low resolution issues when VR as a technology was pretty new, but this is no longer the case. Should you want to enable them again, you can do so in game settings;
Increased quality and readability of all texts rendered in the game;
Steam Cloud enabled, so that Steam Frame and PC versions of the game can share progress;
MSAA filtering enabled;
Improved ragdoll animations;
Switched from OVR to OpenXR runtime;
Sound effects spatialization engine changed to SteamAudio;
Couple of other other tiny fixes and improvements to gameplay and UI – most of them unrecognizable as singular changes.
The previous version of the game (SteamVR version) will be available as a public legacy branch named “legacy-ovr” – you can choose it by right clicking on SUPERHOT VR in your Steam library, clicking “Properties”, and then going to the “Game Versions and Betas” tab. However, even though this legacy version of the game will be available, it won’t be further supported.
Enjoy!
