Visual Overhaul: New UI, Updated Graphics & Trailer

A living battlefield and rebuilt interface

  • Battle maps now sit on cut parchment above a dark timber table, with retained paper shadows and a clearer separation between the playable world and its surrounding surface.

  • Capitals, settlements, marketplaces, castles, landmarks, and battlefield actions use a consistent family of readable map symbols. Building markers remain legible at every zoom and change their inner symbol at each upgrade tier.

  • Palisades have textured defensive lines and visible breaches. March and battle arrows use crisp sprites, contested borders identify the attacker, and conquest colours transition smoothly.

  • Menus now resemble field orders and campaign dossiers. The command dock, Realm Ledger, standings, scenario briefings, legacy cards, outcomes, notifications, and tooltips share one coherent visual language.

  • Commands have distinctive silhouettes, live costs, hotkeys, complete hover details, stronger contrast, and layouts that remain readable across supported text scales and window sizes.

Infrastructure, roads, and tutorials

  • Fertile and Resourceful land now depends on infrastructure: Frontier service provides 20% output, a nearby Settlement or Marketplace provides 70% Local service, and a completed road to the Capital provides 100% Connected service.

  • Building previews show service districts, productive tiles, overlap, expected output, defensive coverage, construction progress, road junctions, and the exact roads included with the order.

  • Buildings and their immediate road plans are submitted through one authoritative command. If the map changes and the plan is no longer valid, no Gold is spent on a partial order.

  • Settlement districts cannot overlap, and holding Alt over terrain reveals its current service and real per-tile production.

  • The optional Roads & Resources lesson joins The Muster and Battlefield Actions, teaching the full Frontier, Local, and Connected economy through ordinary play in every supported language.

Campaigns, maps, and objectives

  • Campaign progression now uses clearer gates and conquest stamps. Scenarios can begin with asymmetric holdings, established Capitals, completed buildings, roads, and historically shaped pressure.

  • Seeded campaign events add announced reinforcements, survival objectives, staging grounds, contested crossings, and timed holds while preserving deterministic replays.

  • Yellow Turban Rising now includes stronger authored objectives: confront Han relief in Yellow Sky, defeat the expedition and hold the crossing in Fires of Yingchuan, and defend Wan while disrupting announced assaults in Wan Under Siege.

  • Shallow straits open new archipelago routes and economics, while refreshed shore water, map-paper depth, historical realm names, and crisp attack arrows improve every campaign map.

Eight-player multiplayer and smoother large battles

  • Northern Realms, The Great Army, and The Seine now support up to eight multiplayer seats with distinct player colours.

  • Hosts can combine Human, AI, and Inactive seats in Free-for-All or Teams, then configure resources, AI difficulty, petty-realm density, victory conditions, team assignments, and compatible rule modifiers.

  • Players can found Capitals on any valid land tile. Lobby recovery, controller and team handling, guest return, host re-entry, lag notices, reconnection, and match-end flows are more reliable.

  • Large battles reuse unchanged snapshots and ownership data, update only affected frontier tiles, cache building and road previews, and bound AI infrastructure searches. The worst developed-map pauses are removed without changing deterministic gameplay or network results.

Accessibility, platforms, and stability

  • Keyboard navigation, focus handling, reduced-motion presentation, contrast, long-text containment, and immediate language switching have been strengthened throughout menus and battles.

  • Clean recording controls can hide menu UI for trailers and screenshots while preserving the animated title and historical backdrop.

  • The free Northern Saga demo now has an Android release path with touch-specific building selection, stable resource tracks, corrected action previews, wider mobile menus, signed app bundles, and a direct privacy-policy link.

  • Campaign-transition freezes, landmark-hover freezes, large-map AI road-planning stutter, Wine startup faults, and numerous release, localization, rendering, and desktop reliability issues have been fixed.

Watch the new trailer

The new trailer presents Palisade's rebuilt interface, living-map battlefield, infrastructure economy, expanded campaigns, and larger multiplayer battles. If you last played around 0.9.0, version 0.16.0 keeps the same deterministic strategy at its core while making its borders, threats, choices, and consequences much clearer.
