Portalborn — Celestial Rift & Workshop Fixes

Hello everyone!

This update is almost entirely thanks to player reports, including one issue that could prevent a quest from being completed.

Celestial Rift Quests

If you play in Chinese, several Celestial Rift quest objectives were telling you to use the wrong command.

The objectives said 查看, which is the look command. Following the quest instructions exactly would simply show the room description again, and the quest wouldn't advance. The command those objectives actually required was 检查.

There was no error message or other indication that the instructions themselves were wrong.

Twenty-one objectives across Celestial Rift and Dread Catacombs have now been corrected, along with their "next step" reminder text.

I'm sorry about this one. I don't read Chinese myself, but I always try to ensure that the Chinese version is as accurate and fully functional as the English one. In this case, the tests I had built were verifying quest advancement using the correct underlying commands, rather than verifying that the command shown to the player on screen was actually the same one. The quests therefore passed their tests while the Chinese instructions telling you how to complete them were wrong.

I've corrected both the text and the gap in testing that allowed this through.

Two other objectives incorrectly told players to use the return command. If a return portal happened to be open, following those instructions could send you out of the realm entirely. These have also been corrected.

Three Celestial Rift monsters were displaying their internal names instead of their proper names. They now correctly appear as the Corrupted Keeper, Corrupted Sentinel, and Void Manifestation.

The southern star gate was also naming the wrong district. Fixed.

Thank you to player Smile, who found the quest blocker and untranslated monster and reported both clearly enough for me to trace them quickly.

The Workshop

Workshop error messages were effectively invisible.

They were being displayed behind the Workshop itself, so a message such as "you must allocate all 44 points" wouldn't become visible until you left the Workshop. From the player's perspective, it simply looked like the Workshop wasn't responding.

Workshop messages now appear where and when they're supposed to. This was also reported by Smile.

The "Unique Key" field now explains what it actually does. In Chinese, it has been renamed to 唯一标识符, and every relevant creator screen now explains what the field is for, how it will be formatted, and, importantly, that it cannot be changed after creation because other content can refer to it.

Contracts

The contract list command was showing your bounties instead of your contracts. Fixed.

Claiming or abandoning a contract by name also no longer falls through to the bounty board when no matching contract is found.

Thank you all, as always, and particularly to everyone taking the time to report things that don't seem right. Nearly everything in this update came from a player noticing something was off.

In-game event14 Sep 2026Portalborn: Turn the TideHello everyone! This update is focused almost entirely on combat — how much damage you take, how long your abilities actually last, and how your skills interact with an enemy's turn. There are also a number of interface and reliability fixes along the way. This change list is quite a bit heavier than normal. Several changes required other systems to change with them, and things snowballed from…Community12 Sep 2026Portalborn Development UpdateHello everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates over the last few days. I’ve reached a point that a lot of developers eventually hit where I have to admit: “just fast enough” is no longer fast enough. As Portalborn has grown, it naturally takes more time to build, test, and verify changes. The biggest slowdown lately has been my automated Playwright test suite. Before I push builds live, those te…Game update9 Sep 2026Portalborn — Window ControlsHello everyone! The follow-up to the last update, as promised. 🪟 WINDOW CONTROLS ARE BACK Windowed mode now has its own control bar at the top of the game, with minimise, maximise and close buttons. It's built in the game's own style, so it follows whichever theme you're using — including custom ones from the Theme Workshop. ⭐ It only appears in windowed mode. ⚠️ Borderless and fullscreen stay…
