Greetings, Captains. It’s been a while since the last update.
Over the past several days, I’ve been working on a major visual upgrade for both ships and buildings. This work is not simply about increasing the amount of geometry. Many assets are being rebuilt and reorganized to improve their silhouettes, structural detail, and historical character while remaining efficient enough for large-scale fleet battles and open-world environments. For the ships, hull shapes, stern structures, decks, railings, masts, rigging, sails, gun positions, and other visible components are being refined. Buildings are also being reworked with improved architectural detail and cleaner forms so that ports and settlements feel richer and more convincing. At the same time, a substantial amount of optimization work has been carried out.Despite the noticeable increase in visual detail, the updated ship models now use approximately 50% fewer polygons than the previous versions. The optimization is even more significant at the file level. The model file size has been reduced to roughly one-tenth of its previous size, representing an approximately 90% reduction in file size. The goal is to improve visual quality without sacrificing performance. This is especially important in Ship of the Line, where battles can involve dozens or even hundreds of vessels at the same time. These optimizations should also help reduce asset loading overhead and make it easier to display more detailed ships, buildings, and environments together in large-scale scenes. This work is now nearing completion. The first major batch of upgraded ships and buildings is expected to be patched into the game within the next one or two days.More assets will continue to receive the same treatment over time as the visual upgrade progresses.See you at sea, Captains.— From the developer of Ship of the Line
