Smoother on Steam Deck and phones

  • Fixed the frame-time stutter while running across country. The game was building each new chunk of the world in a single frame; it now spreads the work over several frames, so the Deck, and phones and tablets, should no longer drop frames every time a new column of chunks comes into reach.
  • The loading screen now loads a wider ring of country around you before it lets you in, so the first minutes of play have no streaming in them at all.
  • The trader who comes to find you now waits until you've chosen who you are. He used to set out, hail an empty field and go home while you were still on the character select.

Fire

  • Burning vines now clears the grass on the blackened ground until the rain washes the scar and it greens over again.
  • Burning along a river no longer leaves hard square edges: the ash stops where the water laps, and the bank keeps its grass on the far side.
  • A lantern lights vines now, the same as a torch. It's the torch's upgrade; you shouldn't need to carry both.

The world

  • Riverbanks blend on both sides. A strip of mud between water and grass used to have one soft edge and one ruler-straight one.
  • Harder enemies in the east. Beyond the city, and around the camps out there, the factions send bigger parties with someone at range, and each one takes more killing. The same places the better loot is.
  • The rain catcher now holds enough to fill your thirst bar three times and fills in a single storm. It used to hold less than one bar.

The tablet

  • Collect and load all seven town maps and the tablet fills in the whole country.
  • Picking up a map now tells you the tablet can take it in and which key opens it. On a controller, the same button you use with scans the map instead of closing the tablet, and the tablet's caption names the button.
  • Fixed the tablet occasionally redrawing every route you'd walked, start to finish, when you opened it.
  • The tablet's case now matches the menu's look.

Cabins and errands

  • Errand rewards are better across the board. The stone errand pays block walls beside the masonry notes, the fiber errand pays two snares, and the wood, stone and scrap rungs each pay more.
  • The man who came to find you now says on his board what four errands at his door will earn, and how many you have left. Errands at other cabins never counted toward it, and now the board says so.
  • Fixed the visiting trader getting stuck walking into a boulder over and over.
  • The character select screen now matches the main menu's style.

Also

  • The version now reads v0.1.0-earlyaccess on the main menu.
  • Fixed a save folder that could show as a world that "will not open" on the host page.
  • All in-game text is now consistently American English.
